Easy Recruit SA is a leading South African recruitment agency specializing in placing highly skilled professionals in global industries, particularly within energy, construction, and engineering. As part of a strategic international partnership, Easy Recruit SA is currently sourcing an experienced Instrumentation Engineer to join a prestigious contractor executing large-scale oil & gas and petrochemical projects across Saudi Arabia.

This role presents a rare and lucrative opportunity for a senior-level engineer to work on globally significant projects and to gain international experience with some of the world’s most respected engineering teams.

Role Overview

As an Instrumentation Engineer, you will take on a site-based leadership and supervisory role in the instrumentation and control (I&C) function for high-value oil, gas, petrochemical, and industrial construction projects. Reporting directly to the I&C Manager or Engineering Manager, you will be responsible for the full life cycle of instrumentation systems—design review, installation, testing, calibration, and commissioning—while ensuring strict compliance with global and project-specific standards.

This is a critical, hands-on engineering position that requires technical excellence, attention to detail, and the ability to coordinate across multicultural, multidisciplinary teams under high-performance expectations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review instrumentation design documents including P&IDs, loop diagrams, wiring schematics, and datasheets

  • Supervise the installation, calibration, and commissioning of field instruments, analyzers, control valves, and associated systems (DCS, PLC)

  • Conduct field inspections to ensure that all installations comply with project drawings and international standards (ISA, IEC, NEC, API)

  • Coordinate with vendors and internal procurement teams for technical bid evaluations and document reviews

  • Assist in drafting and reviewing method statements, ITPs (Inspection and Test Plans), and instrumentation-related material submissions

  • Perform loop checks, interlock verification, system integration testing, and functional testing

  • Resolve technical issues during installation and commissioning phases

  • Maintain all as-built drawings, calibration records, and testing documentation for final handover

  • Engage with multi-discipline engineering and construction teams to manage schedule and quality compliance

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Instrumentation Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or Electrical Engineering

  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience in instrumentation and control engineering, with at least 5 years in oil & gas, petrochemical, or refinery environments

  • In-depth understanding of process automation systems, fire & gas detection systems, and instrumentation integration

  • Proficient in reading and interpreting technical diagrams, datasheets, and control system schematics

  • Strong working knowledge of ISA, IEC, API, NEC, and related standards

  • Familiarity with hazardous area classification, SIL (Safety Integrity Level) systems, and intrinsically safe (IS) designs

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English

  • Ability to work on rotation or full-time residential basis in Saudi Arabia and adapt to multicultural teams

Skills and Competencies

  • Precision in executing complex engineering tasks

  • Ability to lead and train junior technical staff

  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills

  • Technical report writing and document control

  • Commitment to health, safety, and environmental standards in a hazardous environment

  • Flexibility to travel and relocate for extended periods

  • Professionalism under pressure and tight deadlines
