The Berea Pharmacy branch in East London is seeking experienced and customer-focused Cashiers to support frontline retail operations and uphold the company’s reputation for service excellence.
ROLE OVERVIEW
As a Cashier at Dis-Chem Berea Pharmacy, you will be responsible for processing customer transactions, providing exceptional customer service at the point of sale, and ensuring accuracy and compliance with store policies. You will play a key role in delivering a world-class shopping experience while maintaining operational efficiency, eliminating fraud risk, and upholding company standards.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Accurately record all customer transactions using the Dis-Chem operating system
-
Maintain zero tolerance toward transaction inaccuracies and eliminate any risk of fraud

Establish and maintain professional relationships with customers at the point of sale
-
Adhere to all Dis-Chem customer service policies and procedures
-
Report customer feedback—complaints or compliments—to the Frontline Supervisor or Store Management
-
Be knowledgeable of current in-store promotions and product offers
-
Ensure customers and team members are not exposed to security or safety risks
-
Practice and uphold Dis-Chem’s 5-star communication principles
-
Ensure all purchases are properly processed using acceptable payment methods (cash, card, vouchers, coupons, loyalty points)

Handle exchanges and merchandise returns in line with store authorisation
-
Process and promote loyalty cards and partner rewards programs (e.g., Discovery Health, Momentum Multiply, ABSA Rewards, eBucks)

Perform line voids and price adjustments only with supervisory sign-off
-
Maintain confidentiality when handling daily cash takings
-
Safely store cash in accordance with Dis-Chem’s drop safe policies and SOPs

Recognise suspicious customer behaviour and report it immediately

Ensure stock leaving the store is scanned and paid for

Protect and manage your personal till code and password
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
Essential:
-
Matric / Grade 12 certificate
-
Minimum of 6 months of experience in cashier/till operations

Basic computer literacy (MS Office)
-
Sound numerical and arithmetic skills
-
Strong verbal communication in English
-
Basic understanding of customer service principles

Willing and able to work flexible retail hours, including weekends and public holidays
Advantageous:

Experience in a retail pharmacy or FMCG environment

Ability to communicate in a third South African language
