Job Overview: Barman
ANEW Hotel OR Tambo is currently seeking a confident, enthusiastic, and service-driven Barman to join its Food & Beverage team. This role is ideal for individuals with excellent customer service skills, a positive attitude, and a passion for the hospitality industry.
The successful candidate will be responsible for serving beverages to guests in accordance with hotel standards, ensuring the bar area is clean and well-stocked, and delivering an outstanding guest experience at all times.
Minimum Requirements

Matric / Grade 12 (Essential)

Computer literacy and the ability to work with a Point of Sale (POS) system
-
A minimum of 1 year of experience working in a 4-star or 5-star hospitality establishment

Prior experience in a restaurant, hotel bar, or similar food & beverage environment
-
Bartending certificate (Advantageous but not mandatory)
-
Strong sales skills with a focus on upselling and guest satisfaction
-
Excellent customer care and interpersonal communication skills
-
Knowledge of stock control, stock rotation, and beverage storage procedures
-
Good administrative and record-keeping skills
-
Ability to work shifts, including evenings, weekends, and public holidays
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Guest Service and Beverage Preparation
-
Greet guests warmly and take drink orders efficiently
-
Prepare and serve beverages in accordance with hotel policies, recipes, and hygiene standards

Demonstrate good knowledge of the bar menu, including cocktails, wines, beers, and non-alcoholic beverages

Create a welcoming, professional atmosphere at the bar, ensuring every guest receives excellent service

Provide recommendations and upsell beverages to enhance the guest experience and boost sales

Address guest queries, complaints, or special requests in a prompt and professional manner
Bar Maintenance and Stock Control

Ensure the bar area, counters, and equipment are always clean, organised, and ready for service

Restock bar fridges, shelves, and other stations with beverages, glassware, and consumables as needed

Conduct stock takes before and after each shift, accurately recording all stock movements
-
Report any stock shortages, breakages, or discrepancies to the relevant supervisor immediately

Follow all stock rotation procedures to ensure freshness and quality of beverages

Assist with placing bar stock orders and maintaining appropriate stock levels
Health, Safety, and Hygiene Compliance

Follow all food safety and hygiene regulations as per hotel policies and national health standards

Maintain cleanliness of all bar areas, utensils, and equipment throughout the shift

Dispose of waste and empty bottles responsibly and according to health and safety protocols

Ensure all beverages served meet presentation and quality standards
Teamwork and Communication

Work closely with fellow bar staff, waitrons, kitchen staff, and management to ensure smooth operations

Communicate effectively with team members regarding guest preferences, special orders, or concerns

Support colleagues during busy periods and contribute to a positive team environment

Attend team meetings, training sessions, and briefings as required
