ROLE OVERVIEW

Broll Property Group is seeking a dedicated and skilled Handyman to join its operations team at Kathu Village Mall in the Northern Cape. This position is ideal for an experienced maintenance professional who takes initiative and can handle a wide variety of repair tasks in a commercial property environment. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining the building’s operational integrity through preventive and reactive maintenance, ensuring tenant satisfaction and building compliance.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

General Maintenance Duties:

• Perform daily inspections of the building to identify and address maintenance issues

• Respond promptly to tenant requests and maintenance calls

• Check and repair doors, lights, toilet fittings, external lighting, and fittings

• Inspect and maintain HVAC systems, pumps, water tanks, fire equipment, and emergency systems

• Conduct basic electrical inspections (e.g., DB board checks)

• Report unrepaired or complex maintenance issues to the Building Supervisor

• Record and track all completed work and equipment status

• Ensure compliance with safety protocols, OHSA regulations, and internal safety procedures

Tenant Installations & Support:

• Conduct quality control on tenant installations during or after completion

• Assist in preparing premises for new tenants (e.g., relocating partitioning)

• Support tenants during move-ins and general maintenance requests

Relationship Management:

• Maintain regular communication with tenants and report concerns to the Building Supervisor

• Address tenant complaints promptly and ensure high service standards

• Collaborate with the building management team to uphold the mall’s operational efficiency

Documentation & Reporting:

• Maintain up-to-date maintenance logs and work order files

• Complete reports for OSH compliance, inspections, and incident tracking

• Assist in ordering equipment and supplies as directed

General Support:

• Attend team meetings and report maintenance issues

• Assist other departments when necessary

• Be familiar with emergency procedures, contact lists, and act in the supervisor’s absence if needed

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

Minimum Education:

• Standard Eight (Grade 10)

• Additional training in general maintenance or repair work is beneficial

Experience:

• Minimum 2 years of proven experience in a maintenance or handyman role, preferably in a commercial or retail property environment

Technical Knowledge:

• Understanding of basic plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and general building systems

• Ability to read and interpret technical blueprints or diagrams

• Familiarity with safety and health regulations (OSH)

Skills and Attributes:

• Self-motivated and capable of working independently

• Excellent attention to detail

• Good communication skills

• Physically fit and able to perform manual tasks

• Strong hand-eye coordination and mechanical aptitude
