We are looking for a dynamic Marketing & Promotions Director to drive strategic marketing initiatives, promotional campaigns, and brand growth across our expansive store network. This high-impact executive role will play a key part in positioning the brand in a competitive retail landscape and enhancing our customer connection across traditional and digital platforms.

ROLE OVERVIEW

As the Marketing & Promotions Director, you will lead and manage our Marketing, Promotions, and Customer Care teams, reporting directly to the Retail Managing Director. You will focus on developing and executing high-performing, brand-aligned marketing strategies across above-the-line, digital, sponsorship, and customer engagement channels.

You will work closely with our Group Buying Team (who manage product selection and pricing) to align promotional campaigns with retail objectives and customer insights, ensuring business growth and competitive brand positioning.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Above-the-Line Marketing

  • Design and lead advertising campaigns across print, TV, radio, and outdoor platforms

  • Manage leaflet distribution strategies to ensure national reach and performance

  • Oversee agency relationships and media buying activities

  • Maintain consistency in brand voice and price point marketing

Digital Marketing & Brand Management

  • Lead the brand’s digital strategy (website, SEO, social media platforms)

  • Safeguard brand custodianship, ensuring all visual and verbal messaging is consistent

  • Drive digital engagement and customer acquisition strategies

  • Lead digital transformation aligned with evolving retail consumer behaviours

Promotions, Sponsorships & CSR

  • Develop sponsorship and partnership strategies to grow brand presence

  • Launch experiential and event-based marketing activations

  • Manage community outreach and CSR campaigns to boost social impact

Analytics and ROI

  • Conduct pre- and post-campaign analytics to measure success and optimise ROI

  • Align campaign metrics with product availability and promotional stock levels

Customer Engagement

  • Oversee the customer care team, ensuring excellent service and feedback response

  • Lead the development of customer loyalty and retention strategies

Team Leadership

  • Manage and mentor a team of 12 across marketing, customer care, and promotions

  • Implement efficient campaign development and approval processes

  • Collaborate closely with merchandising and operations to integrate marketing into store experience

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS

Experience

  • Minimum 5–10 years in a senior marketing role, ideally in retail

  • Multi-channel campaign management experience (traditional and digital)

  • Strong background in brand development and brand custodianship

  • Proven digital marketing success (SEO, paid media, social, website UX)

  • Retail industry experience in the Southern African market preferred

Leadership & Strategy

  • Demonstrated ability to lead and scale marketing teams

  • Budget and performance metric ownership

  • Excellent external stakeholder management, including agency partners

  • Skilled in campaign alignment with product and merchandising strategy

Analytical Skills

  • Strong data-driven mindset

  • Proficiency in campaign metrics, market research, and promotional forecasting

  • Ability to interpret consumer analytics to guide marketing decisions

Education

  • Degree in Marketing, Communications, or related field

  • Professional marketing certifications are advantageous
