Role Overview
Pick n Pay is recruiting for the following Retail Assistant Roles:

Checkout Assistant
-
Shelfpacker (Wine, Groceries, General Merchandise, Perishables, Clothing)
-
Warehouse/Stockroom Assistant
-
Service Area Assistants (Bakery, Butchery, Deli, Fruit & Veg, Cheese)
-
Production Assistant
-
Blockman
These roles require individuals who are passionate about retail, enthusiastic about customer service, and ready to work flexible retail hours, including weekends and holidays.
Key Responsibilities
-
Greet customers with a friendly, professional demeanor and provide prompt assistance
-
Maintain cleanliness and organisation of the store and all service areas
-
Stock shelves according to standard operating procedures (SOPs) ensuring FIFO (First In, First Out) practices
-
Check product quality, remove expired stock, and maintain correct pricing labels
-
Rotate stock, reduce shrinkage and wastage, and maintain cold chain standards where applicable
-
Maintain excellent visual merchandising and store display standards
-
Operate equipment (e.g., slicers, ovens, cleaning machines) according to safety protocols
-
Respond to customer queries with professionalism and escalate where necessary
-
Work collaboratively with team members and supervisors to maintain high store performance
-
Promote store products and contribute to a great customer shopping experience
Qualifications and Experience
No formal qualifications are required, but previous retail or service industry experience is advantageous. The ideal candidate should:

Be hardworking and willing to work shopping mall hours

Remain calm under pressure in busy store environments

Be assertive with excellent communication skills in English

Demonstrate service orientation and a strong team-player attitude

Be customer-focused, friendly, and professional at all times
