About the Role

Discovery is seeking an experienced Content Lead: Insurance to manage and drive content strategies for both Discovery Life and Discovery Insure. This position sits within the broader marketing function and reports directly to the Head of Content. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing daily content operations, developing thought leadership materials, and managing content creation teams, including freelance writers and creative suppliers. This is a strategic and hands-on role that requires both editorial expertise and project management excellence.

Key Responsibilities

As the Content Lead, your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Leading the planning, creation, and execution of content for Discovery Life and Discovery Insure

  • Collaborating with brand, PR, and social media teams to brainstorm content for various media platforms

  • Managing content workflows, project timelines, and resource allocation

  • Supervising freelance writers and ensuring content meets brand and regulatory standards

  • Developing high-quality content including thought leadership articles, social media posts, executive communications, and press releases

  • Engaging with business executives to produce accurate and compelling LinkedIn content

  • Translating complex insurance and financial concepts into accessible and engaging material

  • Researching market trends to inform editorial direction

  • Supporting large-scale marketing campaigns and managing external agencies and creative teams

  • Aligning content deliverables with strategic marketing objectives and business goals

Required Skills and Competencies

Candidates should bring the following skills and attributes:

  • Deep understanding of the insurance, investment, and financial services sectors

  • Exceptional writing and editing skills, with an emphasis on clarity, accuracy, and engagement

  • Proven experience in content strategy, campaign planning, and audience segmentation

  • Ability to engage and influence senior stakeholders

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills

  • Experience leading a team of content creators or freelance writers

  • Project management capabilities, with the ability to manage complex content projects

  • High attention to detail and strong organizational ability

  • Capacity to thrive under pressure and manage multiple priorities effectively

  • Familiarity with digital content formats and social media marketing

Qualifications and Experience

Minimum Requirements:

  • Matric and a relevant tertiary qualification (degree in marketing, communications, journalism, writing, or languages)

  • 5 to 8 years of experience in PR, editorial, social media, communications, or agency environments

  • Proven background in writing about financial services, insurance, or investments

  • Demonstrated experience in developing content strategies and working across multiple media formats

  • Digital marketing and social media proficiency
