Role Overview

The Cashier Talent Pool comprises candidates who may be considered for cashier roles in various Dis-Chem stores across Durban. While this is not an immediate hiring opportunity, selected candidates will be prioritized when suitable vacancies become available. Cashiers play a critical role in maintaining customer satisfaction at the point of sale and ensuring that transactions are processed accurately and efficiently according to Dis-Chem’s policies and procedures.

Purpose of the Role

Cashiers are responsible for supporting in-store operations through efficient transaction processing, customer engagement, and maintaining store integrity. They serve as the frontline of the business, ensuring a world-class shopping experience that reflects Dis-Chem’s values.

Minimum Requirements

Essential:

  • Grade 12 / Matric Certificate

  • At least 6 months of experience in cashier or till operations

  • Basic proficiency in MS Office

  • Numerically literate with good problem-solving skills

  • Strong command of English (written and spoken)

  • Customer-oriented mindset

  • Willingness to work flexible retail hours, including weekends and public holidays

Key Responsibilities

  • Greet customers and establish positive, professional relationships

  • Record all transactions accurately on the Dis-Chem POS system

  • Process a variety of payment methods including cash, bank cards, vouchers, and coupons

  • Process loyalty cards from Dis-Chem and partner programs (e.g., Discovery, Medihelp, Momentum Multiply, eBucks)

  • Handle refunds, exchanges, and voided items in accordance with company procedures

  • Report complaints, compliments, and customer feedback to store supervisors

  • Ensure that cash, till drawers, and related financial information are handled securely and confidentially

  • Follow Dis-Chem’s customer service, health, safety, and security procedures

  • Be alert to suspicious activity and immediately report concerns to store management

  • Maintain a clean, organized, and presentable till station

  • Stay up to date on in-store promotions, sales, and new products

Advantageous:

  • Proficiency in a third South African language
