Role Overview
As a Cashier at Dis-Chem Pharmacies Table Bay, you will be responsible for handling all transactions with accuracy and integrity while providing exceptional service at the point of sale. Your role will involve processing payments, managing customer queries, supporting store promotions, and ensuring compliance with company policies and standard operating procedures. This position plays a crucial part in upholding Dis-Chem’s reputation for operational excellence and outstanding customer service.
Key Responsibilities

Deliver customer service in line with Dis-Chem standards and policies

Build a professional rapport with customers, providing friendly and helpful assistance

Process customer purchases, returns, refunds, and exchanges efficiently

Operate tills accurately, handling all types of payment methods including cash, card, vouchers, and loyalty program benefits

Record transactions using Dis-Chem’s internal systems while preventing transactional errors and minimizing fraud risk

Maintain awareness of current store promotions and inform customers as necessary

Place all collected cash into drop safes as per the store’s standard procedures

Monitor cash drawers for accuracy and report discrepancies immediately to the Frontline Supervisor

Handle loyalty programs for Dis-Chem and partner rewards (e.g., Discovery, Momentum, eBucks)

Comply with all security protocols to ensure a safe working environment for customers and colleagues

Manage line voids and price changes only upon approval by a supervisor

Address customer concerns related to pricing, products, and availability

Uphold confidentiality of store takings and avoid unauthorized discussions of store finances
Qualifications and Experience

Grade 12 / Matric Certificate

A minimum of 6 months’ experience in cashier or point-of-sale operations

Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)

Proven numeracy and accuracy skills in a retail setting

Strong command of the English language (spoken and written)

Previous exposure to customer service in a fast-paced retail environment is advantageous

Knowledge of loyalty program systems and handling promotional campaigns is a plus
