Role Overview

We are seeking a skilled and motivated Assistant Store Manager to support the successful operation of our Germiston (Reef) branch. This is a crucial role for someone with retail leadership experience who can execute strategy, inspire teams, and elevate store performance. The successful candidate will be responsible for achieving sales goals, maintaining operational standards, and delivering customer service excellence. Your ability to manage staff, control stock, minimize risk, and optimize the customer experience will be key to your success in this role.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maximise store sales performance by ensuring customer satisfaction and service excellence

  • Maintain top-tier merchandising and stock display standards in line with Econo Foods guidelines

  • Manage stock intake, inventory levels, expiry dates, and overall product condition

  • Foster a positive and inclusive team culture that aligns with Econo Foods’ HO HOLA values

  • Oversee cash management processes including banking, float preparation, and POS operations

  • Train, develop, and manage a high-performing store team through daily coaching and support

  • Enforce health and safety regulations, ensuring compliance with hygiene and food safety standards

  • Analyse store performance data to identify trends, opportunities, and improvements

  • Implement and monitor all opening, closing, and security protocols

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with customers, vendors, and local community stakeholders

Qualifications and Experience

  • Grade 12 (Matric) qualification is essential

  • A tertiary qualification in Retail Management, Business, or a related field is advantageous

  • Minimum of 3–5 years’ experience in retail management, preferably in the FMCG sector

  • A proven ability to meet sales targets and drive store profitability

  • Sound understanding of inventory management, merchandising, and cash handling procedures

  • Must have a valid driver’s license and preferably access to own transport

  • Strong interpersonal skills and a collaborative team player

  • Confident yet approachable with a friendly and customer-focused demeanor

  • Proven leadership and staff management capabilities

  • High-level communication skills, both written and verbal, in English

  • Competent in Microsoft Office and store management systems

  • Detail-oriented with a strong sense of accountability and accuracy

  • Ability to analyze sales data, trends, and customer behaviour to make strategic decisions

  • Composure under pressure and excellent problem-solving skills
