ROLE OVERVIEW
The Artisan Diesel Mechanic role is crucial for ensuring the optimal operation and maintenance of Sasol’s own fleet, including fuel delivery vehicles and pool vehicles. Based in Alrode, Alberton, this position requires a skilled professional who can perform proactive and reactive maintenance on trucks, tankers, and other fleet vehicles. The successful candidate will be responsible for compliance with safety and legal standards related to vehicles transporting dangerous goods, fault diagnosis, and ensuring the fleet’s operational readiness.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Conduct regular maintenance and repair work on Sasol’s own fleet, including MAN truck tractors, tankers, and pool vehicles

Ensure compliance with all safety procedures and work instructions, especially those relating to the transportation of hazardous materials

Perform SANS 10231 inspections and brake tests to ensure vehicle safety and roadworthiness

Identify mechanical defects and promptly report them to supervisors for timely intervention

Maintain accurate and detailed records of all maintenance and inspection activities conducted

Operate workshop equipment safely and ensure regular safety checks are completed

Demonstrate excellent communication and coordination with internal stakeholders and teams
-
Take full responsibility for safety within the assigned work area, promoting good housekeeping and adherence to safety standards

Troubleshoot technical faults, recommend practical solutions, and perform necessary repairs to ensure minimal downtime

Support the planning and organization of maintenance schedules to optimize fleet availability and reliability
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

Grade 12 (Matric) or equivalent
-
Occupational Trade Certificate in Diesel Mechanics or related field
-
Minimum of 3 years’ relevant experience in vehicle maintenance, preferably with experience in vehicles transporting dangerous goods

Strong knowledge of legal requirements and safety standards related to hazardous materials transport

Proven ability to perform technical fault finding and maintenance on heavy vehicles and fleet equipment
