👨‍🍳 Role Overview

Empact Group is seeking a Kitchen Supervisor in Tongaat who will play a pivotal role in maintaining the smooth daily operations of the kitchen. From overseeing food production to maintaining inventory and compliance, this position is ideal for a hands-on professional with a solid culinary background and management experience.

You will assist the Catering Manager, support the kitchen staff, and ensure menu consistency, cost control, and excellent service delivery across the board.

📌 Key Responsibilities

• Supervise kitchen production activities to ensure consistent quality and timely food service

• Maintain portion control, preparation, and food storage procedures to reduce waste and control costs

• Monitor inventory levels and communicate supply needs to the Catering Manager

• Ensure compliance with hygiene and food safety standards, including temperature checks and cleaning records

• Assist in food preparation and contribute to basic culinary tasks according to the menu cycle

• Complete and maintain paperwork such as wastage sheets and stock records

• Participate in stock takes and support regular inventory audits

• Support and coach team members, fostering a culture of excellence and teamwork

• Assist with cost analysis and in-unit financial management

• Uphold high standards of service, even under pressure, and be willing to assist in other duties as needed

🎓 Qualifications and Experience

• Matric/Grade 12 is essential

• Tertiary qualification in Food & Beverage Services or Culinary Arts is compulsory

• Minimum of 2 years’ experience in a supervisory or kitchen management role

• Prior experience in healthcare catering is advantageous

• Proficiency in stock control, ordering, and receiving goods

• Must be computer literate

• Solid knowledge of both fine dining and mass catering environments

• Familiarity with South African food industry laws and safety regulations

• Strong management and people leadership skills

• Effective communication skills with the ability to lead and motivate a team

• Competent in basic computer applications
