📋 Role Overview
The Painter will be responsible for preparing and painting a variety of surfaces, including walls, buildings, and fixtures. The role includes selecting paint materials, filling surface imperfections, and ensuring a professional finish. This position plays an important part in the maintenance of facilities and operational aesthetics, directly contributing to workplace quality and safety standards.
🛒 Key Responsibilities
• Prepare surfaces by sanding, cleaning, and applying undercoats and topcoats using brushes and rollers
• Apply coats of paint, enamel, varnish, lacquer, or stain to both interior and exterior surfaces, fixtures, and trim
• Fill nail holes, cracks, joints, and other surface flaws using caulk, putty, plaster, or appropriate fillers
• Mix and match paint materials, including pigments, oil, thinners, and drying agents, to achieve the correct color and consistency
• Maintain cleanliness and organization of tools and workspaces
• Keep detailed records of work completed, paint materials used, and equipment maintenance
• Ensure that painted surfaces meet Unitrans’s quality and safety standards
• Foster and maintain positive working relationships with internal customers and team members
✅ Qualifications and Experience
Minimum Educational Requirements:
• Grade 12 / Matric with Mathematics
• Completion of a formal three-year apprenticeship in painting
Experience Requirements:
• Minimum of 2 years’ hands-on experience in a similar painting role
• Demonstrated knowledge of surface preparation techniques and paint application methods
Key Skills and Competencies:
• Ability to select appropriate materials and tools for specific painting tasks
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to high-quality finishes
• Skilled in mixing paints and matching specified colors
• Knowledge of workplace health and safety protocols in a workshop environment
