Role Overview
Reporting to the Pharmacist, the Pharmacist Assistant (Post Basic) will play an essential role in medication management, stock control, and administrative functions within the pharmacy. This includes dispensing medication, managing stock levels, liaising with healthcare staff, and participating in quality improvement initiatives. The ideal candidate will have a keen eye for detail, strong organizational skills, and a customer-focused approach.
Key Responsibilities
Medication and Stock Management

Receive, check, and unpack stock deliveries, ensuring accuracy and checking invoices against orders.

Order pharmaceutical stock and manage credits and stock transfers.

Participate in cycle counts, stock takes, and investigate any variances.

Ensure the replacement of medications to the emergency cupboard and manage dead stock.

Assist in the dispensing and compounding of medications under the supervision of a pharmacist.

Manage stock distribution to internal units, ensuring optimal stock levels.
Collaboration and Quality Initiatives

Work closely with nursing staff and doctors on formulary management and quality improvement initiatives.

Actively participate in the facility’s quality programmes to enhance service delivery and patient care.
Administrative Support

Assist with daily administrative tasks and ordering of stock.

Provide administrative support as required for smooth pharmacy operations.
Qualifications and Experience Required

Registration as a Post Basic Pharmacist Assistant with the South African Pharmacy Council is essential.

Experience in hospital pharmacy will be an advantage.

Computer proficiency, especially with pharmacy management software and Microsoft Office.
