Role Overview
Reporting to the Patient Administration Manager, the Admission Clerk will be responsible for managing the full admissions process, from pre-admission documentation to patient registration, while delivering outstanding customer service. This role requires attention to detail, familiarity with clinical terminology, excellent communication skills, and the ability to manage conflict and queries in a professional manner.
Key Responsibilities
Patient Admission and Data Accuracy

Process all patient admissions according to the hospitalโs established protocols and standards.

Capture accurate patient data into the hospitalโs system during admission and pre-admission processes.

Perform clinical coding accurately, adhering to ICD and CPT coding standards to support billing and case management.
Customer Service

Act as the first point of contact for patients and visitors, offering assistance with directions and information.

Handle telephonic inquiries and ensure calls are routed correctly and efficiently.

Respond to patient queries and concerns, resolving issues where possible or escalating appropriately.
Administrative and Financial Duties

Carry out daily receipting of payments, ensuring accurate transaction records in accordance with company financial policies.

Achieve set targets for daily admissions and maintain compliance with administrative timelines and procedures.
Qualifications and Experience Required

Grade 12 (Matric) is essential.

A minimum of 2 years of experience in a similar administrative environment, preferably in a healthcare setting.

Computer literacy is required, with strong proficiency in hospital administration systems.

Proven experience in customer interaction, including conflict resolution and effective communication.

Knowledge of hospital procedures and medical terminology is an added advantage.

Flexibility to work shifts, including night shifts, weekends, and holidays.
