Position Objective

The Server Engineer will be responsible for maintaining and optimizing SANRAL’s virtualized infrastructure, including vSphere, vCenter, ESXi, and Site Recovery Manager (SRM). This role involves troubleshooting, managing patches, disaster recovery, and server migrations to ensure high system availability, security, and compliance. The Engineer will provide ongoing support, generate reports, and assist with continuous improvement efforts to support SANRAL’s modernization initiatives.

Minimum Requirements

• Education: Diploma in Information Technology (NQF level 6).
• Experience: Five (5) years of relevant experience.
• Certificates:
  • VMware Certified Professional and/or Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate.

Advantageous

• Certifications: ITIL Foundation.
• Technical Skills:
  • VMware Administration: Expertise in vSphere, vCenter, ESXi, Site Recovery Manager (SRM).
  • Patch Management: Managing security and application patching using Microsoft Intune, ManageEngine, and SCCM.
  • Security & Compliance: Experience ensuring PCI-DSS, ISO 27001 compliance via automated security updates.
  • Server Builds & Migrations: Knowledge of server cloning, Sysprep, domain registrations, and OS upgrades.
  • Monitoring & Automation: Proficiency with SCOM, SCCM, PowerShell, Ansible, and VMware vRealize.

Technical Competencies

• Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC): Knowledge of SDLC and Agile methodologies, processes, and tools.
• Technology:
  • vSphere, vCenter, ESXi, Site Recovery Manager (SRM).
  • SCOM, SCCM, PowerShell, Ansible, VMware vRealize.

Key Responsibilities

Management of Systems

• Respond to Helpdesk calls, manage service availability, and follow ITIL change, incident, and problem management processes.
• Provide technical recommendations for VMware infrastructure.
• Support and maintain VMware SRM for disaster recovery testing and configuration.
• Oversee server migrations, cloning, patching, and OS upgrades.
• Maintain N-1 compliance for server OS upgrades to support PCI-DSS certification.
• Manage server security and application patching for over 1000 servers and endpoints.
• Ensure compliance with PCI-DSS, NIST, and ISO 27001 security frameworks.
• Build and deploy new servers, including domain registration and patching.

Reporting

• Generate daily system availability KPI reports and track incident management.
• Provide ad-hoc business reports and automated incident reporting.
• Document patch deployment status and disaster recovery readiness.
