Purpose of Job

To coordinate health and safety activities to facilitate inspections, data gathering, and data maintenance and integrate health and safety initiatives into SASOL operations to maintain a safe and healthy environment.

Recruitment Description / Key Accountabilities

Ensure full understanding of SHE strategy and approach and risk based implementation methodology
Implement all aspects of elements relevant to role and ensure conformance to relevant SHE performance requirements SHE Principal Ventilation Officer
Implement SHE risk-based approach to manage key SHE undesirable events and SHE risk controls relevant to role
Regularly input and update health data, produce graphs/charts/management reports to present findings
Compile management reports based on statistical interpretation of exposure results against national legal framework and international best practices
Statistical interpretation including identifying, analysing and interpreting trends or patterns in health data sets for functions or projects within a comprehensive report
Maintain the Operations’ risk exposure profiles to ensure that risk-based medical surveillance are as per medical surveillance schedule
Simplification and alignment of occupational health procedures and works instructions across regions
Development and implementation of Health Database, management of usage and maintenance of Health database (post involvement in BRS for database optimization) within Occupational Hygiene department
Manage team performance and development formally and informally based on standard practices in use across Sasol.
Identify and activate learning as required based on individual and collective needs.
Nurture a team spirit and openness towards feedback, collaboration, knowledge sharing, and innovation.
Contribute towards problem solving projects on occupational medicine/hygiene health deviation and workplace visits, as per occupational hygiene schedule SHE Principal Ventilation Officer
Compile occupational health reports, indicating health trends, risk analysis and business specific profiles
Ensure compliance to Sasol policy and legislation and breastfeeding employees. Ad- hoc documentation where necessary documentation to Operations, consult the employee, do recommendations and workplace visit if required
Identifying problematic areas, conducting research to determine best course of action to correct negative trends as well as to optimize health exposure profiles
Analysing and solving issues with current and planned systems as they relate to the integration and management of homogenous exposure group data, hazard exposure profiles and or optimisation opportunities
In collaboration with others, interpret data and identify health improvement opportunities based on specific parameters and findings
Ensure that all relevant Sasol Legal requirements, SHE policies, standards and practices are conformed and complied to at all times
Execute ad-hoc medical surveillance functions at medical centre whenever required
Build and maintain positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders to enable the achievement of operational excellence.
Understand customer needs and suppliers contributions to drive operational results in best interest of company
Build constructive working relationships with manager, peers, clients and other service providers
Build on relations with line Management on occupational health issues to enhance service level commitment

Formal Education

Grade 12

Intermediate Certificate in Mine Environmental Control

Min Experience

Experience: 4+ relevant years
