LECTURER/ SENIOR LECTURER: VETERINARY ANATOMY

RESPONSIBILITIES:
The successful candidate will actively participate in the following areas:
- Didactic and practical training of undergraduate and postgraduate veterinary and veterinary nursing students in Veterinary Anatomy, Histology and Embryology;
- Departmental research and publication of research findings in peer reviewed international journals;
- Departmental and Faculty administrative and related activities, as well as other duties as delegated by the Head of Department;
- Community engagement activities; and
- Participating in self-development activities as outlined by the Head of the Department.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Lecturer:
Qualifications:
- For someone without a veterinary qualification: An appropriate MSc; OR
- For someone with a veterinary qualification: A BVSc (or an equivalent veterinary qualification) and a Masters or equivalent postgraduate degree at the time of appointment or be prepared to register for an MSc to be completed within two years of appointment;
- At least 2-years experience;
- Demonstrable interest in research;
- Evidence of continued professional development or continued education development;
- Participation in extracurricular academic activities or events;
- Commitment to develop a teaching and learning portfolio required at the lecturer level; and
- Demonstrate strong potential to become an established specialist researcher;
Senior Lecturer:
Qualifications:
- For someone without a veterinary qualification: An appropriate PhD; OR
- For someone with a veterinary qualification: A BVSc (or an equivalent veterinary qualification) and a Masters or equivalent postgraduate degree;
- Five or more research-based full papers in an accredited scientific journal as senior author and/or co-author;
- At least three years’ experience; and
- Commitment to develop a teaching and learning portfolio required at the Senior Lecturer level.
REQUIRED COMPETENCIES (SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND BEHAVIOURAL ATTRIBUTES):
- Research interest appropriate to the position;
- Good language and communication skills (written and verbal comprehension and verbal expression);
- Generic teaching competence such as communication and presentation, word-processing, spreadsheets and social networking skills; and
- Candidates without a PhD: Commitment to further academic development.
ADDED ADVANTAGES AND PREFERENCES
- Evidence of applicable teaching experience;
- Evidence of a strong research record; and
- Preference will be given to candidates with a Master or equivalent postgraduate degree.
The annual remuneration package will be commensurate with the incumbent’s level of appointment, as determined by UP policy guidelines. UP subscribes to the BESTMED and UMVUZO Health medical aid scheme and contributes 50% of the applicable monthly premium.
