Job Description

Purpose of Role

The role is responsible for ensuring management and execution of drilling activities to ensure a well-fragmented blasted rock. The drill Foreman is responsible for making sure that the hole is drilled to the planned depth to ensure well-fragmented blasted rocks The drilling Foreman shall ensure that he/she creates a conducive environment for employees to achieve excellent performance through continuous coaching and training.

Role Context

  • Reports to the Drilling Supt
  • Managing drilling section so that planned drilled metres are achieved safely and cost effectively.
  • Ensure that drilling equipment are operated effectively and safely
  • To make sure that holes are drilled to the required depth as per the drill plan
  • Submit drilling data to the drilling manager for reports
  • Discuss production performance and line-up with the shift during shift change
  • Maintain high quality drilling standards to curb costs in order to achieve annual operating and capital budgets
  • Conform to MHSA guidelines by continuously working according to the stipulated mine procedures
  • Coordinate with technical department in order to reduce ore contamination
  • Provide direct control of drilling operations which include resource and reserves, ore blending and equipment utilisation.
  • Develop and execute shift strategy in order to achieve the daily planned target.
  • Lead and supervise the drilling team
  • Risk Assessment is done before drilling takes place
  • The block to be drilled is prepared well and signed off as per the SOP
  • The block to be drilled is barricaded off
  • Holes are drilled to the correct depth by measuring each drilled hole
  • The drill plan from mine planning is available in all drills
  • Ensure that drilling equipment are operated effectively and safely
  • Tags are collected after charging and cleaned for re-use
  • Other holes are not damaged during drill tramming
  • All drilling equipment and personnel are removed for blast as per the baster’s recommendation
  • Implement rock engineering recommendations in drilling to maintain safety
  • Support blasting section to achieve good fragmentation by drilling accurately
  • Create and maintain good and healthy relationship with employees and contractors.
  • Prepare and summarize progress reports for management

Job Requirements

Qualifications:

  • Grade 12/ NQF Level 4
  • Diploma or certificate in Mining courses will be an advantage.
  • Open cast blasting ticket
  • Supervisory certificate

 

Job specific experience:

  • Minimum of 3 years mining experience in open cast mining in drilling section
  • Should have excellent command in English both verbally and written.

 

Inherent requirements

Must be medically fit.
