The employer: The Corporate Office of a leading SA employer in the industrial processing, distribution, and services industries : Industrial Equipment & Services and Consumer Industries (food and ingredient solutions). Tax Manager

Location: Sandton, Johannesburg

Salary: R1,185,440 and R1,333,620 per annum

The core purpose of the role: 
Tax management, compliance and tax advisory function for the Corporate Office entities. The role includes project management and consolidation functions for the main operating company of the South African Group. To also manage the centralized Africa Tax Desk for the Group.

Academic requirements:

  • BCom qualification
  • HDip Tax/H Dip International Tax/M Com Tax/M/ Com International Tax

Work experience

  • 7 to 10 years experience at a Corporate or Service Provider firm of which 3 was in international tax

Competencies

  • Knowledge of tax law
  • International tax principles
  • OECD Model Tax Treaty Tax Manager
  • Ability to communicate in writing in a clear and concise manner

Job Objectives/Key Responsibilities

  • Tax management and compliance function for the main operating company of the South African Group, and other entities administered at the Corporate Office; includes Treasury and holding companies.
  • Project managing and consolidating compliance deliverables of all the other divisions.
  • The preparation of responses to tax authority queries, drafting and filing objections and appeals where necessary. Tax Manager for more tax jobs check out here
  • The preparation Tax Manager  of tax journals, reporting and disclosure on financial statements.
  • International tax deliverables including the calculation of section 9D imputations as well as completion and filing of IT10 schedule.Tax Manager
  • Acting as e-filing administrator.
  • Manage the centralised Africa Tax Desk for the Group.
  • Research and communicate any legislative developments that impacts any of the Group’s operations either directly to the relevant responsible persons and/or in the form of the Monthly Tax Bulletin
  • Follow-up to ensure that appropriate action was taken in relation to legislative developments.
  • Coordinate lobbying and thought leadership from a tax perspective in Africa.
  • Draft policies and procedures for South African and African tax compliance.
  • Liaise with service providers in Africa.
  • Resolve tax technical queries and write tax opinions relating to transaction in Africa referred by the rest of the Group.
  • Assist with the successful resolution of tax authority audits where required.
  • Arrange the Africa tax training taking place every second year. This includes identifying service providers, finalising content and liaising with attendees.

Internal and external Communication

Internal communication:Tax Manager 

  • Direct e-mail communication regarding legislative developments to in-country tax teams
  • Monthly Africa Tax Bulletin distributed to all staff with Africa tax responsibilities.
  • Approved policies and procedures for African tax compliance – annuallyTax Manager
  • Accurate and practical written tax technical opinions as and when required.

External communication

  • Negotiates with service providers for group wide Africa tax training session every two years (8 countries)
  • Written communication with tax authorities regarding legislation changes affecting the group
