Job Description

The purpose of the Forklift car driver is to ensure a standard and safe method for collection and delivery of rolls from Needle Punch and Tufting, according to the shift production plan, in line with the agreed quality standards and product specifications during an allocated shift to ensure that Belgotex Customer Service, Volume and operational efficiencies are realized through efficient production, adherence to plan and high-quality output of manufactured product.

The Forklift driver will also be required to assist in the plant when requested to.

SPAN OF CONTROL

This role is responsible for transporting and delivering rolls from Needle Punch and Tufting to the allocated machine/s.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES & OUTPUTS

The Forklift Driver is to ensure the safe transportation of rolls from Needle Punch and Tufting when needed so that the machines can run according to the production schedule with no downtime.  This includes:

•               Stacking the mother rolls in the allocated bins

•               Follow the backing sequence when loading the backing plant.

•               Ensure that the secondary is sufficient for the production run.

•               Help fellow employees when the need arises.

Responsible to perform inspections on the Forklifts this includes:

•               Responsible for performing daily and weekly checks on the forklift.

•               Responsible for ensuring that the Forklift is maintained and serviced on time.

•               Responsible for communicating and escalating issues to the supervisor i.e., Forklift defects etc.

•               Work within the departments and Hyster rules and regulations

 

Stakeholder relationships

 

•               Attend daily shift team briefings and relay critical information to the Manager or Shift Supervisor to be constantly updated of issues requiring attention.

•               Constantly update the Manger or Shift Supervisor on any issues during the shift

•               Work with the other shift team members to implement solutions to issues detected.

 

Reporting and Documentation

 

•               Ensure that all processes, recipes, and production specifications are documented into required SOP and process flow formats and stored centrally as per agreed document management system.

•               Ensure the most up to date SOPs and transactional documentation are followed to ensure consistency of process.

•               Work with the Shift Supervisor to implement continuous improvement processes to improve output, reduce variability and manage operational constraints.

•               Ensure that all work done is within the ISO Framework and the Health and Safety requirements are observed and adhered to.

 

Safety, Health, Environment – We Tread Softly

 

•               Perform all shift activities that ensure compliance with applicable safety, health and environment legislation and audit requirements.

•               Clean the Tufting department to ensure that housekeeping standards are always maintained.

•               Report any safety defects to the Shift Supervisor

•               Ensure housekeeping is kept to 5S standards.

Follow any reasonable work instruction as may be required from time to time.

 

Job Requirements

Requirements:

•       Experience as a Forklift Driver is essential.

•       Understanding of Backing is highly advantageous.

•       Good knowledge and understanding of ISO 90001 is advantageous.

•       Must be able to work shifts.

•       Must have good vision.

•      Working knowledge of ISO 9001, 14001,18001 is an advantage.

•      System and application knowledge e.g., 5S, CAMS

Qualifications:

• Grade 12 / Matric with a pass mark in Maths/Maths Lit and English is essential.
• Forklift/Hyster Driver License is essential.
• CTFL Learnership or Carpet Technology or a recognized production course is advantageous.
