To assist students to develop those skills in the areas of personal and social growth, educational planning, and career development that will contribute to their growth as mature and responsible members of society.
Educational Requirements:
Degree in Psychology or counseling
Honours degree an advantage
Minimum 2 years experience in a similar role
Duties and Responsibilities:
Student skills development
Provides individual and group counseling and guidance including guiding and counseling students through the development of personal, social, educational, and career plans.
Administers tests and analyzes and interprets test results to provide information about educational, career, and personal/social needs.
Assists with placement and follow-up services for students.
Assists students in selecting programs of study to enhance career planning.
Assists students in building self-esteem and developing decision-making, problem-solving, and positive human relations skills.
Utilizes community resources in addressing the needs of students.
Prepares and manages annual budget pertinent to the counseling and guidance program.
Refers students for further counseling where necessary.
Maintains comprehensive records and reports.
Exhibits positive human relations skills.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Student, lecturer, and parent liaison
Consults and collaborates with parents/guardians, lecturers,
and staff about understanding and meeting the special needs of students and makes appropriate referrals.
Provides appropriate appraisal services to assist lecturers, parents/guardians, and students.
Provides information and resource services for students, parents/guardians, and faculty.
Plans with lecturers, GM, parents/guardians, and students’ steps for modifying student behavior.
Liaison with SRC & AM & GM on matters arising at campus and issues that need to be resolved.
