As a health delivery and research organisation, THINK engages with the local community, government consortia, and international funders to provide care for over 100,000 people in KwaZulu-Natal and carry out cutting-edge clinical research that has already contributed to changing treatment guidelines internationally and locally.
THINK is looking for a qualified Adherence Counsellor to support the implementation of the THINK USAID TB LON project in KwaZulu-Natal Districts. The aim of the project is to safeguard advances of TB treatment by strengthening the TB health care platform in the district. The Adherence Counsellor will be based in KwaZulu-Natal Province (uMgungundlovu) and report to the THINK TB Technical Lead.
Duties and Responsibilities include but not limited to:
Provide Enhanced Adherence Counselling to DR TB clients initiated on treatment.
Prepare clients to initiate treatment.
Provide clients with a comprehensive understanding of their treatment journey using adherence tools.
Educate clients on their medications and side effects, and help clients to pack pill boxes (where needed).
Identify and train TB treatment supporters.
Support the linkage of clients to necessary support structures.
Alert facility and refer to outreach teams if clients miss visits.
Provide ongoing support for clients to adhere to treatment over the long term.
Provide information to the programme Linkage Officers to ensure all information is captured into the THINK online data application system.
Work with the TB team to improve the quality of care, retention in care and adherence to treatment for TB clients.
Participate in facility meetings where relevant.
Participate in community awareness events to advocate for adherence eg. Community dialogues.
Self-updating on DOH guidelines, policies and SOPs available on project share point platform.
Capacity building through attending appropriate training programmes.
Ensure THINK vision, mission and values are reflected in all job outcomes.
Comply with all THINK rules and regulations and policies and procedures.
Be passionate about making the difference and add value to THINK.
Perform other duties as required.
Complete THINK adherence tools.
Initiate innovations such as group adherence counselling and adherence clubs if possible.
Contribute to betterment of THINK.
Ensure THINK vision, mission and values are reflected in all job outcomes.
Requirements:
Grade 12- HIV and AIDS counselling certificates.
Diploma in Counselling.
1-2 years working experience within a similar environment or any clinical setting with TB screening and testing services.
Experience as a community health facilitator/counsellor.
Must not have a criminal record.
Must have a valid drivers license
