Storeman operator

BIL is looking to employ a skilled Storeman Operator who will be rsponsible for cargo handling, operational administration and Handling Hazardous Materials – Spill Response. The successful incumbent will cover a range of warehouse activities and general operational duties.

Qualifications & Experience

Minimum matric level of education.
Must be able to read and write English.
Experience within a cargo handling environment.
Exposure to operational administration procedures.
Knowledge of computers / use of scanners.
Maintaining and upholding health and safety.
Experience with Handling Hazardous Materials – Spill Response.
3 years of warehousing experience.

Key Responsibilities

Warehouse Activities
Ensure all bins visited are Cycle counted to ensure stock Accuracy.
Ensure to Count all areas under BIL control as per SLA and KPI requirements.
Ensure daily orders is confirmed in the WMS systems correctly.
Ensure daily stock receipted and binned is confirmed in the WMS systems correctly.
Ensure all daily receipts/Orders are Quality Checked ensuring 100% correctness prior to binning and or disptaching.
Expedite any urgent materials to the bins to ensure the stock is available at the soonest for orders.
Inspect cargo counted for damages and report if necessary.
Bin cargo using hand held scanners/Put away sheet after ensuring the labels on stock correlate to the actual material received.
Rectify any mistakes and highlight these to the receiving/outbound team as and when required.
Assist with securing cargo by strapping and shrink-wrapping where necessary for safe storage.
Report any discrepancies and theft to the Superintendent/facility manager.
Safely operate reach truck and forklift as and when required.
Ensure that handling of all client stock is done with reasonable care.
Ensure that all scheduled daily tasks are completed prior to leaving.
Ensure that all cargo is handled in terms of MSDS requirements prior to binning.
Ensure that all generated documents correlate to the receipted/dispatching loads at all times.
Quality check all receipted/and or Outbound cargo for accuracy and correctness against system generated documents.
Ensure that hazardous materials are stored in accordance to the compatibility charts.

Operational Duties
Report any abnormalities /defects in the warehouse.
Ensure that goods are correctly and safely transported/loaded (Haz Classes and Stock Classification).
Report all damages, negligence and theft immediately to the Superintendent/Facility manager.
Operate any counter balance forklift up to 3.5 tons.
Ensure that handling equipment checklists are completed and signed off.
Ensure that safety devices are operational on all handling equipment.
Ensure that operational equipment is parked in designated area at all times and to be charging when the shift ends.
Use of scanners as effectively and efficiently as possible without damaging the scanner.
Participate actively in the SHERQ programs that is implemented in the facility.
Any Chemical/material spills to be reported to SHEQ and cleaned up in accordance with procedures on MSDS.

General Duties
Ensure a clear understanding of the companies SOP’s as well as policies.
Report any non conformances to Facility Manager.
Ensure that near misses are completed and escalated to management.
Involvement and participation in BIL WAREHOUSING EC as well as the compliance to OSH Act.
Ensure that near misses are completed and escalated to management.
In care of clients cargo as well as company assets at all times.
Attend Daily/Weekly Blue Area Talks – Staff Meetings
