About the Role
The Bookkeeper plays a pivotal role in maintaining financial integrity and operational efficiency across the Central Region’s food services network. Working in a dynamic, high-volume environment, the incumbent will take full accountability for executing month-end procedures for more than 30 operational units, conducting detailed financial analysis, and performing thorough reconciliations to support regional decision-making.
In addition to core accounting duties, the Bookkeeper works closely with Regional Managers and unit personnel to explain trading variances, monitor gross profit levels, and manage debt books. This role requires an assertive individual who can perform site visits and audits, manage high-volume financial data, and ensure strict compliance with internal control policies and statutory accounting frameworks.
Important Operational Requirements: Candidates must possess a valid Matric certificate, a relevant tertiary Accounting qualification, and a minimum of 5 years of experience in Finance. Proficiency in SAP, CSFAB/AS400, and Advanced Excel is non-negotiable. Applicants must have own transport, demonstrate the physical ability to visit operational sites for audits, and be prepared to work overtime during peak deadline cycles.

Month-End Financial Reporting & Reconciliation

Execute the complete month-end accounting process for more than 30 food units, including preparing journals, analyzing financial results, and conducting balance checks.

Analyze monthly trading figures, identify variance trends, and present clear financial commentary to the Management Accountant and Regional Managers.

Drive the monthly financial results sign-off process in collaboration with regional operational leadership.

Prepare complex General Ledger reconciliations and maintain tight internal controls across all unit accounts.
Credit Management & Accounts Receivable

Manage a debt book exceeding 30 clients, ensuring accurate credit management and timeous debt collection.

Prepare invoices and follow up with clients to secure timeous payments and remittance advices.

Process daily cash receipts into bank accounts and allocate incoming payments accurately against client records.

Resolve unallocated receipts and take full ownership of customer-related financial queries until final resolution.
Operational Monitoring & Unit Support

Monitor weekly and monthly unit closures across various specialized accounting software systems including SAP and CSFAB/AS400.

Track weekly Gross Profit (GP) figures and stock levels across food units to highlight operational risks.

Provide unit managers and operational staff with ongoing financial guidance, reporting breakdowns, and administrative support.

Take the finance lead during unit mobilizations and demobilizations to ensure smooth accounting system interfaces.
Budgeting, Forecasting & Audit

Assist the Management Accountant in preparing annual operational budgets and periodic financial forecasts.

Perform site visits and carry out comprehensive financial and operational stock audits at food unit locations.

Compile ad-hoc financial reporting, income statements with detailed breakdowns, and high-level analytical summaries.

Assist internal and external audit teams during year-end financial audit processes.
Policy Compliance & Workflow Control

Check and verify daily and monthly documentation workflows coming in from operational food units.

Enforce total adherence to internal company policies, financial governance protocols, and standard operating procedures.

Utilize advanced quantitative tools to manipulate large volumes of financial data and draw actionable operational insights.
Educational Qualifications

Matric (Grade 12) certificate is required.

Relevant tertiary Accounting qualification (Degree or National Diploma in Accounting/Finance) is required.
Experience
-
Minimum of 5 years’ practical experience in Finance or bookkeeping roles.

Proven experience in managing a debt book exceeding 30 commercial clients.

Practical experience in executing complete month-end reporting cycles for multiple operating units.
Licences & Transport

Valid driver’s licence and own transport to conduct site visits and audit procedures.
Technical Skills

High proficiency in SAP accounting software is required.
