A new position has become available for a Maintenance Specialist Energy to join Samancor, Eastern Chrome Mines, situated in Steelpoort Limpopo. The successful candidate will be responsible to ensure implementation and monitoring of the company’s energy initiatives, standards and the energy recovery projects, in line with company strategy and statutory requirements.
Job Description
PURPOSE OF THE JOB:
To ensure implementation and monitoring of the company’s energy initiatives, standards and the energy recovery projects, in line with company strategy and statutory requirements.
BALANCED SCORECARD PILLARS, ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
SAFETY, HEALTH, ENVIRONMENT AND QUALITY
• Identify and assess level of issue-based risk exposures in area of responsibility by considering exposures to business, financial, legal issues, people, equipment, material, environment, processes, etc.
• Consider the level of risk, apply mitigation and implement control measures for residual risk (set objectives, minimum requirements, etc.)
• Manage SHEQ compliance within the Section through effective use of the Toolbox
• Utilise the Integrated Management System (IMS) to initiate, investigate and report SHEQ status
PEOPLE
Manage the Section:
• Ensure an enabling climate/culture
• Manage labour stability by minimising labour turnover
• Labour complement in line with budget
• Achieve HDSA/Female targets for the Section
• Manage performance against set targets and competencies
• Ensure IDP’s are linked to performance results and implemented as per plan
• Conduct career discussions and implement actions with all identified talent (quarterly)
• Ensure discipline is maintained (absenteeism, lateness, overtime, misconduct, etc.)
• Coach and counsel people to ensure improved performance levels
• Conduct recruitment interviews
CUSTOMERS
• Maintain and improve relationships with key stakeholders
• Ensure customer and supplier satisfaction
BUSINESS PROCESSES
Customer Relations:
• Failure investigations and specialist inputs in electrical incidents
• Investigations into high hydrocarbon consumption
Legislation:
• Ensure Samancor SOP’s, training and standards comply with relevant legislation (Mine Health and Safety Act, Operational Health and Safety Act, etc.) and ensure that standards are update when changes are communicated
• Provide information, advice and training regarding legislation that may have an impact on electrical installation, use and maintenance
Representation:
• Represent Samancor Chrome in industry energy forums as will be defined
• Represent corporate body in HV focus group
Project Management:
• Support the energy recovery and base load generation projects in Electrical Project Superintendent capacity
• Support and guide all electrical installation work on other major projects
• Ensure that electrical standards are implemented on projects
• Commissioning support and guidance for major projects
Reporting:
• Compile monthly, quarterly and annual Energy Reports
• Report on projects as per project management requirement
Financial Management:
• Monitor, Eskom invoicing and train plant personnel to control cost
• Monitor, hydrocarbon invoicing and train plant personnel to control cost
• Control project costs as per budget process and proper project management
• Prepare and plan for Departmental Budgets
• To control and follow up on all energy invoices.
Auditing:
• Annual audits on protection equipment and reporting on all ECM sites
• Annual transformer audits and reporting on all ECM sites
Continuous Improvement:
• Research new energy management and control technologies
• Benchmark electrical technologies and standardise Best Practices across all Business Units
GROWTH
• Manage Continuous Improvement through Operational Excellence
SHAREHOLDER VALUE
• Manage the Departmental budget
WORKPLACE COMPETENCIES:
Skills:
• Microsoft Program literacy
• Samancor Chrome systems (IMS, EBMS, Chromedoc, MES)
Knowledge:
• Demonstrate an understanding of South Africa’s Energy regulations
• Good understanding of Eskom systems
• Demonstrate an understanding of project management
Key customers:
• Plants and Mines
Job Requirements
Minimum qualifications:
• Degree or National Diploma in Electrical Engineering
• 6 years’ relevant experience, preferably 2 years’ management experience
Additional qualifications:
• Project Management
