The successful candidate will render comprehensive library, metadata, and research support services structured across the following parameters:

Information Services & Judicial Support

  • Render efficient library and information services to the Judiciary, registrars, internal court officials, and external legal practitioners.

  • Provide effective circulation desk services, including managing the issuing, returning, and tracking of legal books, journals, and legislative texts.

  • Assist library clients with legal catalog inquiries, basic electronic legal research tools, and locating specific case laws or statutes.

Publication Processing & Collection Management

  • Receive and verify all incoming library publications, commercial legal books, law reports, and Government Gazettes against delivery manifests.

  • Process and update library publications systematically, including inserting new updates into loose-leaf legal collections (e.g., Juta, LexisNexis publications) to keep reference texts up to date.

  • Maintain appropriate organization, shelving, and indexing of the court library collection to ensure high scannability and fast recovery of legal research assets.

Minimum Appointment Requirements

Applicants must satisfy the following educational, practical, and competency criteria:

  • Basic Academic Profile: Possession of an authentic Grade twelve (12) Certificate or matric equivalent.

  • Required Experience: Proven relevant work experience within a public, academic, or corporate library setting or information center.

  • Advantageous Criteria: A three (3) year National Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Library Science, Information Science, or an equivalent qualification at NQF Level 6 as recognized by SAQA will serve as an added advantage.

  • Core Technical Knowledge: Clear understanding of technical or professional aspects of information workflows, library information systems, and general library science matters, prescripts, legislation, procedures, and processing.

  • Functional Skills: Proficiency in computer literacy (specifically Microsoft Office suites), strong planning skills, precise customer service skills, and thorough interpersonal relations alongside Batho Pele principles.

  • Assessment Prerequisite: All shortlisted candidates will be required to undertake a pre-entry practical exercise as part of the assessment method to determine technical and generic suitability for the post.
