Key performance areas
Support HIV Testing Services in line with the 95 95 95 strategy
 Conduct PCR testing and rapid HIV testing for HIV exposed infants and children as required
 Keep track of PCR collection, results communication documentation and capturing in Tier. Offer index
testing to HIV positive post-natal women and follow up recruited contacts to offer index testing as per guidelines for safe and ethical index testing maintaining patient confidentiality and observing patients’ rights at all times.
 Identify and/or conduct HIV testing for TB patients with unknown HIV status in hospitals
Support Linkage and Retention in HIV and TB Care
 Follow up PCR positive infants and children to ensure that they have been initiated on ART
 Facilitate appointment booking and share lists of TB and HIV patients down referred from hospital to
PHC or community services with case managers and data capturers
 Confirm and update demographic information for patients enrolled into care and share with data
captures for updating in Tier.net
 Identify and refer complex cases to PSS mentors/ senior clinicians.
 Follow up HIV positive post-natal women after 1 week to ensure to ensure they have been seen at the
referral PHC facility and refer for tracing (case managers or WHCOBOT Team Leaders)
 Support distribution of HIVSS and follow up of results
 Follow up TB patients to ensure that they have been initiated on treatment
 Follow up TB patients not yet on ART to ensure that they have been initiated on ART within the
recommended timeframes as per guidelines
 Follow up TB patients initiated treatment at hospital within 7 days to ensure that they have been seen at
the referral PHC facility
 Source from Data Captures lists of patients due for viral loads and those with no TPT outcomes
 Audit files and identify patients eligible for TPT and decanting
 Support Home ART delivery as part of retention strategy as necessary

Support Viral Load uptake and Viral Load Suppression

 Obtain viral load due lists from data capturers and work with Case Managers to send reminders to patients.
 Collect blood samples and ensure that NHLS forms are correctly filled including relevant EGK codes.
 Participate in VL Blitz activities in /outside facilities.
 Use eLabs system to follow up results, update on patients records and send for capturing on Tier.NET.
 Identify, track and trace patients with abnormal viral load results and refer for clinical and PSS
intervention.
 Minimise waiting time/fast track patients called to facility for VL collection.
Reporting and documentation
 Ensure results are documented as required on all appropriate registers and patient records
 Ensure accurate reporting of data; Viral load, PCR, home ART delivery, TPT, etc.
 Ensure and monitor that the data reported back to the facilities is reported and updated in the Tier.Net
 Participate in weekly and monthly facility programme performance meetings.
 Submit reports on required intervals (Daily, weekly, monthly).

 Take ownership and accountability for tasks and demonstrates effective self-management.
 Follow through to ensure that quality and productivity standards of own work are consistently and
accurately maintained.
 Maintain a positive attitude and respond openly to feedback.
 Take ownership for driving own career development by participating in ongoing training and
development activities such as conferences, workshops etc.
Required minimum education and training
 Grade 12
 Certificate in Enrolled Nursing
 Valid Driver`s license
Professional body registration
 South African Nursing Council
Desirable additional education, work experience and personal abilities
 Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills.
 Teamwork and collaboration.
Required minimum work experience
 At least 1-year relevant experience in the health field, or related position in HIV/TB services
Demands of the job
 Working overtime or over weekends may be required from time to time.
 Able to work in a highly pressurised and challenging environment. May be required to work at sites that
are under strict confidentiality. Tact and discretion must be maintained at all times.
 Local travel may be required
Communications and relationships
 Maintain effective working and communication relationships with team members (Wits RHI), DoH Health facilities staff, Community leaders, Other organizations and WBPHCOT teams.
