The objectives of the National Library of South Africa (NLSA) are to contribute to socio-
economic, cultural, educational, scientific and innovative development by collecting, recording,
preserving and making available the national documentary heritage and promoting an
awareness and appreciation thereof, by fostering information literacy, and by facilitating
access to the world’s information resources.
The NLSA invites applications from suitably qualified persons for appointment on a contract
basis in the position of Administrative Assistant. The successful individual will be based at the
NLSA’s Pretoria Campus and will report to the Manager: LIS Special Projects.
KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS
 Take detailed minutes of meetings, then type and distribute the minutes.
 Draft letters and responses to routine correspondence.
 Respond to queries and communicate with the relevant/responsible person for
action.
 Consolidate reports including editing, formatting and binding project reports, ensuring
timely submissions.
 Filing documents and records management.
 Prepare requisitions for procurement of goods and services.
 Research, arrange and co-ordinate travel and accommodation arrangements for staff
and clients according to the NLSA’s business needs.
 Provide administrative support to other role-players, perform any related duties as
assigned by Management.
 Maintain standards of all work according to agreed levels.

 Perform ad-hoc duties as and when requested.
MINIMUM EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE
 National Diploma in Office Administration (3 year) or equivalent qualification
 At least two years of experience in Office Administration
 Excellent administration and records and information management skills
 Proficient in Microsoft Office (Power Point, Word, Excel and Outlook)
 Experience of report writing
 Public relations skills, excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to relate to staff at
all levels
 A valid driver’s license
