The Internal Audit & Investigations Manager role in Johannesburg offers a strategic leadership opportunity for experienced audit and risk management professionals to enhance organisational governance, drive compliance, and safeguard company assets against fraud and operational risk.


Position Overview

The Internal Audit & Investigations Manager provides independent assurance that the company’s risk management, governance, and internal control processes are effective. This role includes consulting on process improvements, managing fraud and theft risks, and conducting investigations where necessary.

Reporting to senior management, the successful candidate will ensure that audit recommendations are implemented, risk exposures are managed, and the organisation operates in full compliance with South African regulatory and legislative frameworks.


Minimum Requirements

Education and Qualifications

  • Minimum Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Commerce, Internal Audit, or Risk Management

  • Honours Degree and registration with the Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) preferred

  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience at an internal audit firm, ideally with articles and manager-level experience

  • Strong knowledge of South African regulatory, legislative, and risk management frameworks

  • Expertise in Internal Audit processes, ethics, governance, and compliance

Skills and Competencies

  • Proven ability to develop audit methodologies and identify high-risk areas

  • Competence in audit planning, execution, and reporting

  • Strong experience in fraud risk management and investigation

  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and leadership skills

  • Exceptional communication and stakeholder management abilities


Key Responsibilities

  • Develop methodologies to identify high-risk sites and processes for risk-based auditing

  • Plan and execute internal audits across the organisation

  • Report on the implementation of audit recommendations and improvements

  • Provide assurance over risk management processes and internal controls

  • Continuously assess organisational risk exposures and the effectiveness of mitigating actions

  • Manage fraud risk testing and investigation processes

  • Support the development of compliance manuals aligned with new legislation or regulations
