The Dispensary Support role at The Glen offers an excellent opportunity for individuals aspiring to qualify as a Basic Pharmacist Assistant while gaining hands-on experience in a fast-paced retail pharmacy environment. This position supports learners aiming to register with the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC).


Position Overview

The Dispensary Support role is designed to provide structured learning and on-the-job experience for candidates completing the Learner Basic Pharmacist Assistant course. Staff are employed on a fixed-term contract until registered with the SAPC. Once qualified as a Basic Pharmacist Assistant, permanent employment opportunities are offered.

This role is ideal for candidates eager to develop a long-term career in pharmacy and retail healthcare.


Minimum Requirements

Essential:

  • Grade 12 / Matric certificate or Senior Certificate with Pure Mathematics (50%) and Life Science or Physical Science with an average of 50% or higher.

  • Completion of a proficiency test allowing application for SAPC registration as a Learner Basic Pharmacist Assistant.

Advantageous:

  • Retail/FMCG experience, preferably Dis-Chem front shop experience.

  • Knowledge of drug, family planning, and complementary medicine.

  • Computer literacy, numerical skills, and familiarity with Unisolv, SAP, and E-Scripting.

  • Proficiency in a third additional language.


Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in the sale of Schedule 1 medicines or scheduled substances under pharmacist supervision.

  • Support compounding, manipulation, or preparation of non-sterile medicines according to approved formulas and SOPs.

  • Assist with unpacking, merchandising, and cleaning dispensary and OTC shelves.

  • Learn to interpret prescriptions accurately and work within SAPC legal requirements.

  • Ensure medication picking, packing, labelling, and checking follow pharmacist approval.

  • Support stock control, including cleanliness, shelf organisation, expiry tracking, and reporting low or out-of-stock items.

  • Assist with patient follow-ups, call centre queries, and service telephone calls.

  • Provide health information and guidance to customers.

  • Assist with medical aid chronic, HIV/AIDS, and oncology authorization processes.

  • Receive and process dispensary stock according to company SOPs.
