Role Overview

The Maintenance Manager II – Aeroton Bakery will lead all aspects of maintenance, engineering, and plant safety operations at the Johannesburg facility. The role ensures the safe and efficient operation of bakery equipment and infrastructure, compliance with statutory regulations, and execution of proactive maintenance strategies to maximize productivity and minimize downtime.

This is a critical management role for candidates with a strong background in engineering, project management, and team leadership within a fast-paced FMCG environment.


Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and oversee a comprehensive maintenance program for the bakery.

  • Plan and effect preventative and corrective maintenance schedules to reduce downtime.

  • Supervise major repairs and equipment upgrades, ensuring minimal disruption to production.

  • Lead the maintenance team by driving communication, coaching, and performance management.

  • Manage and control the maintenance budget, consumables, and spare parts inventory.

  • Conduct accurate Root Cause Analysis (RCA) on major breakdowns and implement corrective measures.

  • Drive asset productivity through agreed KPIs, efficiency measures, and best practices.

  • Ensure health, safety, and statutory compliance across all plant operations.

  • Coordinate maintenance activities with other departments for optimal efficiency.


Qualifications and Experience

  • B.Tech / B.Sc in Engineering (Mechanical or Electrical).

  • Trade Test Certificate with 3–5 years’ post-qualification experience.

  • At least 6 years’ experience in a maintenance environment.

  • 3+ years’ project management experience with proven ability to lead technical projects.

  • 3–4 years’ management experience in a production or FMCG environment.

  • Strong expertise in mechanical and electrical fault finding.

  • Proven leadership and people management skills.
