Purpose of the Role
The Blockman will be responsible for cutting, preparing, and packaging meat products to meet quality and presentation standards. This includes operating equipment such as meat grinders, knives, and saws, maintaining a clean and safe work environment, and engaging with customers to provide advice on cuts and preparation methods.
Key Responsibilities
Meat Processing
- Cut, grind, and prepare meats for sale according to quality standards.
- Clean and maintain butchery tools, equipment, and workstations.
- Weigh, price, package, and display meat products attractively.
- Conduct quality inspections on meat and related products.
Customer Service
- Ensure displays and signage are accurate and visually appealing.
- Greet and assist customers, offering expert advice on meat cuts and cooking methods.
- Take and process customer orders for collection or delivery.
Teamwork
- Support department managers and team members.
- Actively contribute to team goals and collaborate effectively.
- Perform additional tasks as required by management.
Qualifications & Experience
- Matric certificate or equivalent qualification.
- Minimum of 3 years’ proven experience in a similar position (preferably within FMCG retail).
- Comprehensive knowledge of meat preparation techniques and various cuts.
Competencies Required
- Strong interpersonal skills and relationship building in line with Econofoods’ HO HOLA Culture.
- Friendly, confident yet humble, with a team-oriented mindset.
- Ability to work in a highly competitive, fast-paced environment.
- Fluent in English (written and verbal).
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
- Strong communication skills, accuracy, and attention to detail.
