Shatterprufe is seeking a seasoned Automation Project Manager to oversee major automation initiatives within its Port Elizabeth operations. You’ll steer projects from inception to commissioning, working closely with technical teams and vendors to improve equipment uptime, optimize cycle times, and enhance profitability and sustainability.
Minimum Requirements
- Grade 12 with a technical diploma (e.g. Electrical Engineering) or relevant qualification
- At least 8 years’ experience in automation project delivery within manufacturing or process-driven environments
- Broad technical expertise in PLC programming (Allen-Bradley, Siemens), SCADA systems (e.g. FactoryTalk, Wonderware), servo drives, industrial networking protocols (Modbus, Profinet, Ethernet/IP), and safety circuit design
Key Competencies
- Strong stakeholder communication and project coordination skills
- Excellent technical problem-solving and decision-making abilities
- Proven track record in managing suppliers and technical teams on complex automation projects
- Familiarity with mechanical and control systems in glass manufacturing
- Solid working knowledge of quality, health, safety, and environmental compliance
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage automation projects end-to-end: scope, planning, vendor coordination, installation, testing, and handover
- Provide onsite technical support across multiple sites to troubleshoot equipment issues, optimize cycle times, and enhance efficiencies
- Develop and maintain project documentation including electrical drawings, software backups, panel configurations, and system schematics
- Produce training materials and support production teams during project rollouts
- Ensure compliance with documentation standards, safety protocols, and data integrity procedures
- Communicate effectively with stakeholders to align on project scope, timelines, and post-implementation support
