
Join the Agricultural Research Council Internship in Rangeland & Forage Science
Are you a recent graduate in agricultural or environmental sciences looking for real-world research experience? The Agricultural Research Council (ARC) invites 18 qualified and motivated individuals to apply for its Internship Programme in Range and Forage Sciences, located at the ARC-AP campuses in Pretoria, the University of Western Cape (UWC), and the Eastern Cape. This 1-year fixed-term contract offers an incredible opportunity to work on vital research projects that support sustainable farming and rangeland management in South Africa.
About ARC: Animal Production – Range and Forage Sciences
The ARC: AP-Range and Forage Sciences unit plays a crucial role in improving livestock production systems by conducting research into pasture development, biodiversity conservation, and sustainable land use practices. As an intern, you will contribute directly to field-based research that has national impact.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare tools and equipment for fieldwork and data collection
- Assist in data labeling, capturing, storage, and management
- Support research teams in compiling monthly and quarterly reports
- Ensure correct usage of scientific and technical equipment
- Participate in project planning and general administration
- Coordinate research activities within the Range and Forage team
- Strict adherence to Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) and SOPs
- Engage in cross-functional research collaborations
- Provide both written and verbal updates on project tasks
Minimum Requirements
- National Diploma, BSc, Honours, or MSc in one of the following fields:
- Agricultural Management
- Animal Sciences
- Plant Sciences
- Wildlife Management
- Biodiversity Conservation
- Strong advantage for applicants with postgraduate degrees
- Experience in rangeland or animal fieldwork is preferred
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
- Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a large research team
- Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently
- Valid driver’s license (Code 8 or 10) is an added advantage
