The Agricultural Research Council (ARC) is offering a 1-year Internship Programme in Renewable Energy at its Natural Resources and Engineering (ARC-NRE) campus in Silverton, Pretoria. This opportunity is tailored for ambitious graduates who want to gain hands-on experience in renewable energy and bioenergy research.
About ARC-NRE
ARC-NRE is one of the ARC’s key divisions focused on innovative agricultural technologies, resource conservation, and renewable energy systems. This internship is aligned with a National Department of Agriculture project aimed at expanding sustainable energy solutions across South Africa.
Position Overview
As an intern in this programme, you’ll work closely with scientists and project managers on activities that support bioenergy, biomass utilization, and renewable energy engineering systems. You’ll contribute meaningfully to cutting-edge sustainability research.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with the Project Manager to implement project technical activities
- Conduct site visits, perform data capturing, and ensure data quality control
- Assist in the preparation of technical specifications for renewable technologies
- Work with technologies related to biomass, bioenergy, and other green energy solutions
- Assist in purchasing and managing project-related equipment and consumables
- Compile and submit technical reports for internal review
- Support in the maintenance of equipment and facilities
- Actively participate in team meetings, seminars, and workshops
- Comply with all Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) protocols
Required Qualifications and Skills
- BSc or BTech in:
- Biotechnology
- Microbiology
- Energy Studies
- Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Environmental, etc.)
- Intention to pursue postgraduate studies (Honours or Master’s) is encouraged
- Passionate about renewable energy, climate resilience, and sustainable development
- Excellent teamwork, communication, and research skills
- Valid driver’s license is an added advantage
