Role Overview
As a Messenger/Cleaner at Ampath Greenacres, you will be responsible for both cleaning and logistical support duties within the Client Services department. This includes cleaning the laboratory or care centre, transporting specimens, delivering pathology reports, and assisting with general non-clinical support functions.
Your role is essential to the smooth day-to-day operations of the facility. A hygienic, well-organized environment is fundamental to effective healthcare delivery, and the accurate, timely movement of samples and documentation supports diagnosis and patient care.
Key Responsibilities

Maintain high cleanliness standards throughout the laboratory or care centre

Collect and deliver pathology specimens in accordance with protocols

Deliver medical reports to relevant stakeholders in a timely and confidential manner

Assist with non-clinical administrative tasks as required by the department

Ensure cleaning supplies and equipment are used and stored safely

Support the facility by helping create a neat, professional, and welcoming atmosphere

Provide assistance to patients, staff, or couriers when necessary

Comply with infection control standards and Ampath’s operational procedures

Maintain confidentiality and professionalism at all times
Minimum Requirements

Grade 12 / Matric certificate is essential

6–12 months of experience in a similar role, either as a cleaner or messenger, preferably in a medical or healthcare environment

Ability to follow cleaning schedules and handling protocols for medical environments

Sound understanding of health and safety procedures in clinical settings
Skills and Attributes Needed

Ability to communicate effectively in both English and Afrikaans

Basic numeracy for logging specimen counts and related data

Reliable, punctual, and self-disciplined with a strong work ethic

Good interpersonal skills and a friendly, approachable manner

Able to work well under minimal supervision while supporting a broader team

Comfortable with manual tasks and navigating different areas of a facility or hospital
