Role Overview
As a Technician in the Clinical Pathology division, your primary responsibility is to perform sample testing and diagnostics with accuracy, consistency, and speed. You’ll be working in a high-pressure environment where time-sensitive data supports life-saving decisions. Key Responsibilities

Conduct routine and urgent sample analysis with strict adherence to quality protocols

Ensure accurate specimen identification, preparation, and timely reporting of results

Operate, calibrate, and maintain laboratory equipment as per standard operating procedures

Contribute to quality assurance efforts by complying with internal and external standards

Participate in team discussions, share insights, and support junior staff in skill development

Engage positively with clients and healthcare professionals regarding lab-related queries

Perform administrative tasks related to test documentation, data entry, and result logging
-
Be available for on-call duties every second week, with standby responsibilities on alternating weekends
Qualifications and Experience
To be eligible for this role, you must have the following:

National Certificate in Medical Technology (Clinical Pathology)

Registered with the HPCSA as a Medical Technician in Clinical Pathology

Completion of 18 months of experiential training within a Clinical Pathology setting
-
Valid South African Code B or C Driver’s Licence
-
Own reliable transportation is essential due to after-hours call-outs and standbys
Skills and Competencies

Fluent in English and Afrikaans (written and spoken)

Proficient in basic computer applications such as MS Word and laboratory systems

Strong numerical and logical reasoning skills

Ability to work independently and within a collaborative laboratory team

Excellent attention to detail and time management in a fast-paced environment

Working Hours

Weekly Hours: 45 hours per week

After-Hours Rotation: On-call every second week from 18:00 to 05:00

Weekend Duty: Alternate Saturdays and Sundays from 14:00 onwards

Work Week: 5-day schedule (may include public holidays as per operational needs)
