Job Overview
ANEW Hotel Centurion is looking for a motivated, reliable, and experienced Cook to join its busy kitchen team. This position plays a vital role in preparing and delivering high-quality meals, desserts, and pastries in the hotel’s restaurant and during events and functions.
The successful candidate will contribute to ensuring all food produced meets the highest standards of taste, presentation, and hygiene. You will also be responsible for food preparation, stock control, and ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations in a fast-paced kitchen environment.

Minimum Requirements

Matric / Grade 12 (Essential)

Higher Certificate or formal qualification in Culinary Arts or Food Preparation (Advantageous)

Minimum of 2 years’ experience working as a Cook or Chef in a busy, professional kitchen

Ability to thrive under pressure in a fast-paced kitchen environment

Strong understanding of food hygiene, health and safety standards, and stock rotation practices

Excellent attention to detail with a passion for delivering consistently high food quality

Flexibility to work shifts, including weekends, public holidays, and evening hours
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Food Preparation and Service
-
Prepare, cook, and serve high-quality meals, desserts, and pastries for the restaurant and functions
-
Ensure all food is prepared according to hotel standards, guest expectations, and presentation guidelines

Assist with the daily food preparation required for the kitchen, ensuring freshness and efficiency
-
Maintain excellent food presentation standards at all times
Stock Control and Inventory Management
-
Ensure all food items and stock are neatly packed and stored to allow for accurate stock counts
-
Assist with daily stock level checks for fridges, freezers, dry stores, consumables, and kitchen equipment
-
Ensure all products used are of the highest quality and meet the hotel’s standards
-
Follow strict stock rotation policies to minimise waste and maintain freshness
-
Check issued stock against requisitions and report any discrepancies immediately to the relevant person
Kitchen Hygiene and Compliance

Maintain the highest standards of hygiene and cleanliness in all food preparation and storage areas

Comply with hotel health, hygiene, and safety policies at all times

Ensure safe food handling practices are followed to prevent cross-contamination

Assist with the cleaning and maintenance of all kitchen equipment, utensils, and workstations

Ensure all products are received, rotated, and stored according to hotel and health regulations
Teamwork and Collaboration

Work closely with the Executive Chef, Sous Chef, and kitchen team to ensure smooth kitchen operations

Maintain clear and professional communication with team members and supervisors

Support the training and development of junior kitchen staff where required

Contribute to a positive, productive, and motivated work environment in the kitchen
