ROLE OVERVIEW

AFGRI Equipment is seeking a qualified Workshop Manager to lead and manage workshop operations in Dalton, KZN. The successful candidate will supervise technicians, ensure effective repairs and maintenance of agricultural machinery—particularly John Deere equipment—and oversee day-to-day operations of the workshop. This is a leadership role requiring hands-on technical expertise, excellent customer service skills, and strong team management capabilities.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Supervise all workshop operations including job scheduling, work process control, and technician performance

  • Resolve workshop-related problems efficiently and effectively

  • Maintain a compliant, safe, and productive working environment by enforcing health and safety regulations

  • Ensure that technicians use personal protective equipment (PPE) correctly

  • Foster strong relationships with customers by managing and resolving queries and complaints promptly

  • Process warranty claims and ensure timely receipt of credits

  • Monitor job card status updates and ensure effective time and workflow management

  • Manage inventory of workshop tools and equipment to prevent losses and downtime

  • Compile operational reports for management

  • Enforce budget controls and track expenditure

  • Oversee staff performance, set KPIs, and identify training needs

  • Apply fair and consistent disciplinary action when required

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

  • Grade 12 (Matric) certificate

  • Qualified Mechanisation Technician

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience as a qualified mechanisation technician

  • At least 3 years’ experience with John Deere equipment

TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES

  • Strong customer service orientation

  • Proven ability to lead and motivate a technical team

  • Sound knowledge of agricultural technology and machinery

  • Valid South African driver’s licence

  • Competency in mechanical diagnostics, warranty processes, and workshop safety

BEHAVIOURAL COMPETENCIES

  • Analytical thinking and problem-solving ability

  • Strong attention to safety, quality, and compliance

  • Excellent interpersonal and customer-facing skills

  • High sense of accountability and integrity

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
