The Business and Industry (B&I) division is currently seeking a detail-oriented and responsible Storeman to join the team in Midrand, Gauteng. This role plays a vital part in inventory control, stock integrity, supplier relations, and hygiene compliance in the store and kitchen environments.

ROLE OVERVIEW

The Storeman will be responsible for managing all store-related activities, including receiving stock, conducting stock takes, maintaining hygienic storerooms, handling daily inventory movements, and liaising with suppliers. The ideal candidate must have experience in storekeeping within a food service or hospitality environment and understand the importance of accurate stock control, food safety, and timely deliveries.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Receive all deliveries of stock in line with Fedics policies and procedures, ensuring quality and quantity checks

  • Administer and control the ordering of food, resale, and beverage items

  • Ensure the proper issuing of stock from fridges, freezers, dry stores, and chemical stores according to specified portion sizes and timeframes

  • Perform costing of meals, stock, and special functions daily and with accuracy

  • Process all invoices via My Market on a daily basis

  • Conduct weekly stock takes, ensuring accuracy and completeness of records

  • Maintain high hygiene and cleanliness standards as per Fedics and food safety regulations

  • Rotate stock using the FIFO (First-In, First-Out) method and discard expired items as per waste control policies

  • Ensure storerooms, fridges, and freezers are clean, products are stacked properly, and all items are date-marked and labelled

  • Proactively report any unavailability of stock and plan ahead for consecutive operational days

  • Prevent wastage and monitor leftover management

  • Maintain positive supplier and client relationships, ensuring smooth communication and service delivery

  • Protect and manage the storage of all food products and equipment within the storerooms

  • Attend to customer complaints and compliments promptly and appropriately

  • Provide assistance in other units when required and perform reasonable tasks assigned by management

SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES

Technical Skills:

  • Working knowledge of My Market system

  • Sound understanding of stock control, costing, and food handling procedures

  • Basic computer literacy (emails, stock systems, spreadsheets)

Soft Skills:

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Excellent coordination and multitasking ability

  • Attention to detail with a high level of accuracy

  • Proactive, reliable, and punctual

  • Team-oriented with a positive attitude

  • Strong client service mindset

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum Matric (Grade 12)

  • At least 2 years’ experience in a similar stock/storeroom role

  • Prior experience with foodservice stock control and receiving is highly advantageous

  • Exposure to costing and inventory systems

  • Experience in hospitality or catering environments, particularly in storeroom operations

  • Experience with My Market platform preferred
