ROLE OVERVIEW
The Technical Data Developer will support and enable data migration and cleansing processes within SPAR’s SAP systems, ensuring accurate, consistent, and timely data transitions. The successful candidate will be instrumental in developing SQL-based extracts, analyzing data structures, and supporting user testing. With a strong understanding of the Systems Development Life Cycle (SDLC), the Technical Data Developer will help ensure that all SAP and supporting IT systems run efficiently and align with SPAR’s data governance framework.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Data Migration and Cleansing Support

Assist in the mapping of data fields from source to target systems

Validate that data extracts meet technical specifications and business rules

Identify and troubleshoot errors in data sets and escalate unresolved issues
-
Support user acceptance testing and business validation activities
-
Reconcile extracted data against source systems to ensure accuracy
Technical Development and Extract Creation
-
Develop and optimize data extracts using SAP IS/DS and SQL
-
Maintain and update technical documentation, ensuring traceability and version control
-
Evaluate extract completeness and align data output with business needs
-
Monitor batch schedules and system jobs for performance and failure alerts
Data Governance and Quality Assurance

Support the Data Manager and Business Data Analysts in enforcing data quality dimensions

Detect, investigate, and rectify inconsistencies and incomplete data
-
Contribute to the development and refinement of data governance frameworks and business rules
-
Collaborate on cross-functional data quality initiatives across the organization
System Monitoring and Continuous Improvement

Propose enhancements to improve system performance and reliability

Conduct root cause analysis on system issues and contribute to future-proof solutions

Stay current with industry developments in data migration, integration, and cleansing methodologies
Additional Responsibilities

Perform ad hoc technical and data analysis tasks as requested by management

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
Minimum Qualifications
-
Matric/Grade 12
-
Tertiary qualification in Information Technology, Information Systems, or related field
Experience Required

Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a full Systems Development Life Cycle (SDLC) environment

Proven experience in large-scale data migration and/or data analytics projects

Demonstrated proficiency in SAP data tools, SQL, and technical documentation

Previous experience working in FMCG, retail, or supply chain IT environments is advantageous
