ROLE OVERVIEW
Boxer is seeking a commercially savvy and experienced National Liquor Buyer to take ownership of the liquor category across its national footprint. Based at Boxerβs Head Office in Westville, Durban, this strategic role demands strong buying experience, deep knowledge of the liquor sector, and proven success in driving profitability through supplier management, promotions, and category development. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Lead national and regional trade negotiations with suppliers in the liquor category.

Develop and manage trading term agreements, promotional cycles, and strategic pricing models.

Drive sales performance, gross profit, and overall profitability targets for the liquor division.

Oversee stock management across retail stores and distribution centres (DCs).

Spearhead innovation in product formats, planograms, and merchandising strategies in alignment with new generation store rollouts.

Ensure optimal product ranging and SKU management based on market demand and consumer trends.

Collaborate closely with internal departments such as marketing, demand planning, operations, and executive teams.

Manage advertising campaigns and promotional calendars in partnership with suppliers.

Maintain accurate reporting, analytics, and master data related to the liquor portfolio.

Foster strong supplier relationships and ensure compliance with company policies and trading standards.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
-
Minimum of 5 yearsβ recent experience as a buyer in the Liquor category, preferably within retail, wholesale, or FMCG environments (non-negotiable).

A 3-year Degree or Advanced Diploma in Commerce, Supply Chain, Marketing, or related fields is highly advantageous.

Strong commercial acumen with a keen understanding of promotions, pricing strategies, and category performance.

Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and exposure to systems such as SAP will be an added advantage.

Excellent negotiation, supplier management, and communication skills.

Ability to think strategically while managing the detail and execution effectively.

Strong administrative follow-through and stakeholder engagement capabilities.
