Role Overview
The Excavator Operator is responsible for safe and effective operation of excavating machinery to load, level, and clean material on-site. The ideal candidate will have proven hands-on experience in an earthmoving or mining environment, a solid understanding of safety protocols, and a proactive attitude to workplace tasks.
Key Responsibilities

Operate excavators to excavate, load, level, and clean materials as per project scope

Perform general earthmoving functions in line with the company’s Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Site Task Procedures (STPs)

Carry out ad hoc site tasks as directed by supervisors

Conduct pre-start inspections, including completion of checklists
-
Report all machine defects, wear, or mechanical issues to the appropriate personnel
-
Maintain cleanliness and functionality of the machine through proper housekeeping

Adhere strictly to safety protocols, site rules, and operational regulations

Ensure smooth and efficient execution of excavation tasks under varying site conditions
Qualifications and Experience

Grade 12 (Matric) is essential

Valid Code 10 driver’s licence
-
Valid Excavator Competency Certificate recognized in South Africa

At least 5 years of hands-on experience in an earthmoving or mining environment

Familiarity with mining equipment safety standards and procedures
Additional Requirements

Must be medically fit and in possession of an up-to-date medical record

Willing to work in rotating shifts and in potentially hazardous environments

Should be able to work independently and demonstrate sound decision-making on-site
