The Witbank office is currently seeking a skilled and experienced Project Engineer to lead and support engineering proposals, project execution, and compliance in plant construction, commissioning, and transition to operations.

Role Overview

The Project Engineer will be instrumental in preparing technical proposals, managing engineering execution, and ensuring full compliance with legal and engineering standards. This role requires strong technical leadership within an EPCM (Engineering, Procurement, Construction Management) environment and close collaboration with stakeholders to deliver professional, safe, and financially viable plant engineering solutions.

Key Responsibilities

Projects and Proposals

  • Monitor industry platforms for relevant RFPs in mineral processing

  • Review proposal documents and devise strategies for technical submissions

  • Develop multidisciplinary quotations and detailed technical designs

  • Conduct modelling and tests to meet project specifications

  • Identify technical and financial risks with mitigation plans

Project Engineering and Execution

  • Lead construction and commissioning of plants in compliance with regulations

  • Manage project execution plans including scope, cost, and timelines

  • Coordinate with engineering teams (Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, Structural)

  • Ensure integration of maintainability and reliability into plant designs

  • Engage with client engineers to align on technical expectations

Client Relations

  • Build strong alignment with clients on preferred engineering solutions

  • Attend site meetings to assess conditions and client requirements

Tender and Contracting

  • Develop technical documentation for tender submissions

  • Ensure timely and accurate submission of tenders for approval

  • Negotiate favourable terms with project houses and engineering partners

  • Review and mitigate risks associated with contracts

Project Management

  • Assist in construction methodology planning

  • Develop execution plans and present to internal stakeholders

  • Oversee the delivery of engineering projects including scheduling and budgeting

  • Coordinate subcontractor and equipment resources

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering (B-Tech, BSc, BEng)

  • Government Certificate of Competency (GCC) Mines

  • Professional Engineer (Pr. Eng.) registration is advantageous

  • At least 7 years of experience in plant construction and commissioning within EPCM environments

  • Strong working knowledge of engineering standards and legal compliance in mining and mineral processing

  • Experience in Coal, Iron Ore, or PGM processing is a strong advantage
