Role Overview
The Management Trainee Programme: Mechanical Engineering is a key entry-level opportunity for young, driven engineering graduates who are eager to launch their careers in the FMCG manufacturing space. The role is based in Gauteng, with possible rotations across multiple sites.
Over a period of 4 to 5 years, you will be immersed in practical, hands-on experiences in RCL’s advanced mechanical engineering environments. This development programme is specifically designed to equip you with the technical expertise, project exposure, and leadership skills needed to take on meaningful roles in engineering and operations at RCL Foods.
Key Responsibilities

Participate in mechanical engineering and maintenance projects within operational facilities

Gain exposure to RCL’s Sugar, Milling, or Consumer divisions, focusing on mechanical systems and plant performance

Collaborate with senior engineers and cross-functional teams to optimize equipment efficiency

Apply engineering principles to solve real business problems and improve production processes

Lead small-scale improvement initiatives with measurable impact

Engage in structured training modules designed to develop soft skills, leadership ability, and business acumen

Present learnings, reports, and project outcomes to management teams

Prepare for Professional Engineer registration through guided mentorship and work exposure

Be flexible and open to rotating between sites or provinces to develop a national perspective on the business
Qualifications and Experience
Minimum Requirements:

Final-year students or recent graduates with a completed B.Eng / B.Sc Eng / BTech in Mechanical Engineering

South African citizen or permanent resident

Proven academic strength, especially in 2nd and 3rd-year engineering majors

Proficient in Microsoft Office tools including Excel and Word

A valid South African driver’s license is preferred

Strong analytical thinking, curiosity, and passion for solving technical problems

Willingness to relocate for rotational assignments
