Role Overview

Smollan is seeking a high-performing Field Manager III to join our team in Polokwane. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing field execution, driving retail excellence, and achieving sales targets across assigned regions. This leadership role requires a strategic thinker with strong people management skills, business acumen, and the ability to convert insights into impactful in-market actions.

As Field Manager, you will lead and develop a team of field staff, ensure effective promotional implementation, and maintain stakeholder relationships while supporting business growth in the Limpopo region.

Key Responsibilities

Expense Control and Operational Efficiency

  • Monitor and manage all controllable expenses including fuel, cell phones, and vehicle usage

  • Implement operational processes that support efficiency and budget compliance

  • Drive adherence to company policies and ensure asset protection

Sales and Target Achievement

  • Achieve agreed sell-out targets through effective retail execution strategies

  • Utilize market insights to make data-driven decisions and adjust tactics as needed

  • Drive implementation of POP and in-store merchandising objectives

People Management and Team Development

  • Recruit, onboard, and mentor field staff to meet performance and quality standards

  • Manage performance through structured KPIs, coaching, and regular reviews

  • Promote a high-performance culture and ensure team alignment with company goals

Stakeholder and Client Engagement

  • Build strong relationships with internal teams, external partners, and clients

  • Provide regular updates on execution, competitor insights, and promotional outcomes

  • Negotiate effectively with store owners/managers to secure optimal brand presence

Promotional Execution and Innovation Monitoring

  • Plan and execute promotional campaigns in line with client strategy

  • Monitor market trends and competitor innovations, providing feedback to stakeholders

  • Ensure accurate and timely implementation of promotional activities in stores

Category and POP Execution

  • Support the rollout of planograms and in-store category strategies

  • Optimize shelf health, forward share, and space utilization

  • Report on implementation outcomes and opportunities for improvement

Business Insights and Retail Mapping

  • Analyze sales data to identify trends and improvement areas

  • Conduct store audits and use insights to drive proactive in-field solutions

  • Contribute to territory strategy and execution planning

Teamwork and Self-Management

  • Demonstrate strong self-leadership and accountability in managing time, stress, and competing priorities

  • Collaborate with team members to achieve regional goals

  • Lead by example in applying policies and promoting workplace standards

Minimum Requirements

Qualifications

  • Relevant Diploma or Degree at NQF level 6 or 7 (e.g., Business, Sales, Marketing)

  • Code 8 driver’s license (essential for travel within the region)

Experience

  • 4–5 years’ sales experience within an FMCG environment

  • At least 2 years at a managerial or supervisory level in a retail or field sales context

  • Strong leadership and decision-making skills

  • Planning and organizing capabilities

  • Negotiation and stakeholder management skills

  • Analytical thinking and problem-solving abilities
