Role Overview

We are seeking a proactive and experienced Assistant Store Manager to support the leadership of our Festival Mall branch. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in retail store management, a passion for people and performance, and the drive to help lead a high-performing team. This role involves overseeing day-to-day store operations, enhancing the customer experience, reducing stock losses, managing inventory, and ensuring top-tier store presentation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Drive and exceed store sales targets by leading from the front and fostering a performance-driven culture

  • Ensure that customers receive world-class service at all times

  • Uphold Econo Foods’ high merchandising standards, product presentation, and promotional displays

  • Monitor and manage stock control, including receiving, expiry management, and shrinkage reduction

  • Support all cash handling and banking procedures including float preparation and register balancing

  • Supervise and guide the team in line with the company’s Ho Hola Culture

  • Recruit, train, and mentor staff to build a competent and motivated team

  • Enforce health, safety, and food quality standards according to legal and company requirements

  • Review and interpret sales data to inform performance strategy

  • Manage opening, closing, and security of the store

  • Maintain strong relationships with customers, suppliers, and operational stakeholders

Qualifications and Experience

  • Matric / Grade 12 certificate is required

  • A tertiary qualification in retail, business, or a related field is advantageous

  • Minimum of 3–5 years of experience in a similar role in the FMCG retail industry

  • Proven ability to lead a team, manage store operations, and achieve sales targets

  • Sound understanding of retail systems, including stock, cash, and merchandising management

  • Must have a valid driver’s license (own transport is preferred)
