Role Overview

As a Sales Representative, your primary focus will be to drive sales and develop strategic customer relationships across retail stores and distribution channels. You will be expected to implement effective promotional plans, ensure in-store product visibility, and align sales targets with business goals. This role demands proactive thinking, efficient territory management, and the ability to influence purchase decisions at both the store and customer levels.

Key Responsibilities

Sales and Communication Management

  • Achieve sales targets by developing key account strategies and executing store-level engagement plans

  • Facilitate product communication with store managers and purchasing teams

  • Analyze customer buying patterns and tailor sales techniques accordingly

Customer Service Excellence

  • Provide value-driven service by resolving customer concerns, tracking sales data, and ensuring consistent follow-up

  • Build long-lasting professional relationships with both independent retailers and corporate store chains

  • Ensure customer satisfaction through quick response to issues and proactive communication

Technology and Systems Management

  • Utilize CRM tools and sales tracking software to monitor performance

  • Provide regular reports on sales, store visits, and inventory feedback

  • Stay updated on digital tools that enhance remote client engagement and stock forecasting

Promotion and Merchandising

  • Ensure proper rollout of promotional campaigns across multiple stores

  • Guarantee accurate placement of POS (Point of Sale) material and compliance with planogram standards

  • Monitor promotional stock levels to ensure availability during campaigns

Achievement of POP Objectives and Sales Targets

  • Implement planograms that align with consumer buying behavior

  • Drive forward share visibility and competitive shelf placement

  • Conduct regular in-store audits to ensure stock health and identify merchandising opportunities

Operational Excellence

  • Optimize route planning for store visits and territory management

  • Control expenses related to travel, phone, and vehicle use

  • Provide timely administrative feedback and ensure process compliance

Stakeholder Engagement and Reporting

  • Communicate regularly with Regional Managers on competitor insights, pricing changes, and emerging sales trends

  • Present trade visit reports and recommend action plans for improved performance

  • Engage with depot teams on delivery schedules, urgent stock needs, and credit note resolutions

Minimum Requirements

  • 2–3 years of sales experience in the FMCG sector, preferably at a supervisory or territory level

  • Diploma or relevant qualification (NQF level 5)

  • Valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle

Core Skills and Competencies

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making capabilities

  • Good analytical thinking with attention to detail

  • Proven negotiation, selling, and organizing skills

  • Proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)

  • Working knowledge of industrial relations is advantageous

  • High level of business acumen and commercial awareness
