🎯 Role Overview

As a General Assistant, you will play a crucial role in maintaining high merchandising standards, delivering excellent customer service, and supporting store operations. You will be responsible for stock handling, housekeeping, pricing, safety compliance, and overall in-store experience. This is a physical, fast-paced role suited for individuals who can work under pressure and are passionate about creating a clean, safe, and well-stocked environment for customers.

📌 Key Responsibilities

🛒 Customer Service

• Offer friendly, professional assistance to all customers.

• Guide customers with product-related queries and provide appropriate solutions.

• Assist in handling and resolving customer complaints or referring them to the right person.

🧺 Merchandising & Stock Handling

• Ensure shelves are correctly merchandised according to store layout and planograms.

• Handle bulk stock safely and efficiently in designated areas.

• Ensure that all products are correctly labelled with pricing.

🧼 Housekeeping & Store Cleanliness

• Maintain cleanliness and tidiness in your assigned section.

• Remove obstacles and hazards from aisles to ensure easy customer movement.

• Unpack stock immediately upon delivery to ensure stock availability.

• Complete daily checklist tasks including canteen, toilet, and shower schedules when applicable.

⚠️ Health & Safety (OHSA Compliance)

• Use safety gear and adhere to Occupational Health and Safety regulations at all times.

• Ensure that all racking and bulk stock is safely merchandised.

• Report hazards or discrepancies to the Store Manager immediately.

📉 Stock Loss Management

• Identify and report damaged or expired stock promptly.

• Monitor stock levels to help reduce shrinkage and ensure product availability.

🎓 Qualifications and Experience

Minimum Requirements:

• Grade 10 (NQF Level 3) with 1 year of relevant experience
  OR

• Grade 12 (Matric) with no prior experience

• Ability to communicate effectively in English and the dominant local language

• Ability to perform basic math calculations accurately

• Physically fit and able to work in a high-paced, standing and moving environment

• Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends and public holidays

• Must possess a valid South African ID or work permit
