Role Overview
Birkenstock South Africa is looking for a driven, creative, and detail-oriented Marketing Intern to join the Cape Town-based marketing team for a 6-month internship. This role offers a well-rounded introduction to marketing in the retail sector, particularly for a luxury lifestyle brand. Interns will gain hands-on experience across public relations, social media management, event coordination, trade marketing, and administrative support.
This opportunity is ideal for recent marketing graduates or final-year students who are looking to build their portfolio while contributing to a high-impact, real-world marketing environment. Candidates should bring energy, enthusiasm, and a proactive approach to learning and collaboration.
Key Responsibilities
Public Relations & Social Media Support:

Coordinate product sourcing for influencers, brand events, and digital campaigns.

Track trending content, feedback, and engagement across all social media platforms.

Assist in managing logistics for PR giveaways, influencer drops, and social media competitions.

Provide creative input on social media posts, digital campaigns, and content calendars.
Trade Marketing:

Collaborate with the Marketing Coordinator on mall activations, event campaigns, and seasonal launches.

Assist in creating content for in-store promotions and wholesale partners.

Brief mall partners and print suppliers on materials needed for activations.

Build and nurture digital relationships with wholesale accounts to align on social and promotional campaigns.
Events & Campaign Execution:

Assist in organizing and coordinating logistics for marketing events, including transportation, communications, suppliers, artwork, and deliveries.

Support in-store teams with promotional content and event briefing.

Help with planning and executing mall events and customer engagement activities.
General Marketing Administration:

Manage showroom product samples and assist with product returns.

Support invoice processing for campaign-related stock sourcing.

Communicate with retail teams about ongoing and upcoming campaigns.

Handle general office duties, logistics, filing, and record-keeping.

Provide support for reporting, sample tracking, and internal campaign documentation.
Qualifications and Experience

Grade 12 certificate is required.

Diploma or Degree in Marketing or related field.

Valid Code B driver’s license and preferably access to own car.

Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Familiarity with digital tools and online marketing applications (e.g., Canva, Meta Business Suite, or Mailchimp).

Basic knowledge of product marketing and retail brand management is an advantage.

Previous internship or work experience in marketing, media, or retail (even on a part-time basis) will be beneficial.
